Fiero event in Clayton, GA? (Page 1/2)
blackrams JUL 14, 01:05 PM
I heard a rumor (believe it or not on my Valkyrie motorcycle forum) that there's a Fiero event in Clayton, GA the 24/25th of September.
Any truth to this rumor?
I looked on that little calendar (top right hand corner of the screen) and nothing posted there.

Cool, just another reason to go. That same weekend at that hotel there's a Valkyrie event. Planning on being there but, not in a Fiero.
I don't know the leadership of the Georgia Fiero Club so, I'm putting the info here.
The hotel rate in Clayton is not the price posted on GAFieros site. On the Run for the Hills page, it says $65.95 plus tax but, when I registered the lady told me it was $69.95 plus tax. Just thought I should let those in charge know. It's not much more but, it's not accurate.

Cool! I'll try to find you, if I have time. I'm planning on being there.

Yep, I'm planning on it. Ya never know how things will work out but, I did make a reservation at ground zero. This is happening the weekend after another event I'm scheduled and committed to attending in Corydon, IN the weekend prior to this event. Should I bring my Formula for you to test drive.

I have a thread in General Fiero Chat, and on the Georgia website. We will only be in Clayton Friday afternoon and overnight.

We will depart Clayton on Saturday morning, headed for Asheville. The price I posted was quoted by Andy Patel, manager or owner.

Prices in September can approach twice that amount.

Rams, you're right about the price. I went back to my notes and it is $69.95 + tax. I'll change it. Thanks. I also hope to meet you there.

Looking forward to meeting you, I assume we've not met before.

I was actually planning on being at that hotel anyway for a Valkyrie gathering. Not sure how many folks are coming to that motorcycle event but, I know that nine rooms are currently reserved. Just putting it out there. My reservations (and those of the Valkyrie folks) will be at that hotel both Friday and Saturday. We'll ride a bunch of the surrounding area twisties. There is a possibility I could bring my 88 Formula, 3800SC car but, that means I'd have to haul both it and two Valkyries. Not sure I want to do that. Supposedly, I have that car sold but, so far the buyer has not put all the money in my hands yet. We'll have to see what happens on that.

Does the Valkyrie group have their own block of rooms? Georgia Fieros had 15-20 rooms blocked.

From the hotel, the roads on either side of the hotel will lead you to Warwoman Road. You will want to be very careful on it. Then at the end take 28 north into Highlands. I'm sure your group has some route plans, but you will certainly want to ride these roads. I have used just about every road in that area for our runs, so if you want some suggestions, I have lots of possible routes, from sightseeing to all-out scrubbing the knees.

To my knowledge, we have never met unless you have been at a RFTH. We have interacted on this forum, and that's the only contact I know of.

I was told the Valkyrie group has 10 rooms blocked but, more were available if desired. Based on what I'm seeing on that registration page, more rooms will be needed. That's really all I know about it. Weather has a much greater affect on the biker group attendance than it will on the Fiero group I would think. We don't like getting wet. Folks like myself might melt. The organizer is a friend and I can ask him if you need more information. The Valkyrie group knows about the Fiero group as the Fiero group now knows about the Valkyrie group. For this ride, there are some local folks leading the group(s) on that area's roads. So, giving me such information would really be a waste of your efforts. I won't be leading any rides.

My biggest concern and this applies to both groups is, there's always some that want to prove how good they can ride/drive and push the envelope and their vehicle's capability, the rider's/driver's skill. The last three times I rode Dragon's Tail, I was almost hit by cager's (4 wheeled vehicles) crossing over the double yellow into my lane. I really didn't appreciate the close calls. Advise to all, keep it on your own side of the double yellow.

Reference me attending a RFTHs, have never been able to. So, we've probably not met in person. Steve (raydar) is probably the only person attending I know by sight. Easy to pick out those long haired freaky people ya know.

I know very well what you speak of the double yellow line. In the driver's meeting, I caution everyone that the golden rule is to never touch the yellow line. Swing wide on a left curve and hold tight on a right curve. The sportbikes coming around a sharp curve can be on their side of the line, but their body can be on our side. I observed a driver ahead of me on the Dragon that tended to swing out on a right curve. The oncoming bike rider's helmet missed his side mirror by about 6 inches.

In our 26 years, we have been lucky with only 1 accident, and that was on Warwoman Road in Clayton. The outer end of it is pretty hairy. For a first-timer, it is best to ride the road very cautiously. Deadly curves sneak up on you after a good straight. Hope to see you there. I'm in the C8 Prototype by Pontiac.
