When a hurricane is this close to landfall, there is a much smaller margin of error.
I have friends/relatives in Vermillion and Lafayette Parishes La. They're already feeling the effects of Ida and they're on the less severe (West) side of it.

Last I checked, winds at the "eyewall" were 175 mph.

Kite flying lessons and sky diving have been canceled for today and tomorrow.

I well remember the "Bush hurricane machine" and have wondered whatever happened to it....

Now we know.

Landfall of Ida was quite close to where Katrina did the same. On a clear day, you can almost see Buras from Port Fourchon.

I don't know if you knew this, but they live below sea level and along coastlines. My family house had flooded once. I think Katrina. 1800s build. My uncle K rebuilt the entire lower floor. He bought for a song after it flooded for the first time. Maybe not even Katrina. They haven't lived there long enough. Maybe it sat. 4000 sqft+ on like 2 acres. 100-150k. No way it isn't a million now. He's a craftsman.

Edit. My house will be fine too. Stilts. We are both inland. Not many of us left down there.

All my coonass friends buzzing trying to crash at my okie spot. My family partying on a top deck of a wildly historic home. They gonna get 174+. I was in Okieville for 300+. Moore. 12th and Santa Fe. The heart. When they say it sounds like a train, not a joke.
