Have you watched "Forgotten Weapons" on Youtube? It's a pretty awesome channel - the guy that hosts *clearly* loves what he does.

Sneak peek at my latest adventure.

Front end is swappable to be either fiberglass limb, or slingshot-band powered. Kind of Crossbow/Speargun in one unit. Single shot but this one will take standard bolts, arrows, 6.5" pistol darts or 1/4" steel balls.

Still a month or 2 away from finished though, LOTS more design work to do on it.

I don't know if I would call it an "artifact", but it is rare.
It is a .50 cal quick change ammo box for an airplane. I was told it is from WW2. but I have never been able to verify it.
It may also be experimental? It has an X scratched out in its header.
Look closely at the top:
AIRPLANE (X)SC-1
Either way it is a cool box. The rollers on discharge side or as stated on the box TOWARD GUN, side of the box has a melted roller for the belt feed/guide system. It has a pair of rollers at each side of the top of the box. One set of rollers for belt feed exit and one set for belt feed entrance. It can be used in series with other ammo sources.

It is indeed from WW2 and it was used on the Navy's Curtis SC-1 Seahawk seaplane, (circa 1944 -45).

The Seahawk had 2 wing mounted .50 cal. machine guns.

The ammunition on the Seahawk was loaded into those boxes because the folding wings lacked interior ammo feed trays.

The "X" would indicate "experimental" but being scratched out might mean that the box was used in operational aircraft.

Cool thanks.
The can is in good shape and the build quality is outstanding.
