Hey Rumor (or 3D print guys) (Page 1/2)

This little "project idea" is a tad above my pay grade right now...

I can get one of those delta's for $100, I just haven't yet because of the small size, it's a low priority.

BUT, I just stumbled across this.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3599718

Do you see any reason I can't scale in 3 directions instead of 1 ? Say 450x450x777 instead of just the Z ? Seems I just need longer print-head arms and a G-code adjustment. It could even be done with a CR-10 (square) heated bed and just use the center circular area of it.....maybe ?

(Yeh, I got "large format" stuck in my brain.)

You CAN go "big" on a delta... we saw one that was two stories tall.

There are a few factors which you need to account for - the rods connecting to the hot end need to be longer and much more "beefed" up or they will bend and distort your print. and you definitely want linear rails - the wheeled carriages on the sides of the beams just aren't as good...

Deltas are better at doin' "TALL"... Friend of ours made a crazy tall one to print swords...

you can get a "kossel kit" and then just go longer on the beams (and adjust that in the software)

its a simple solution - limit switches stop the travel...

And I've seen some deltas for 500-800 bucks that have around 375mm bed...

Exactly what I want the size for, one-piece swords and rifle stocks for the cosplay market.

Plus these at 14-16 around. Nobody wants 'tree of life" but skulls and demons and cthulhu and stuff go like crazy. Just havent been able to do them in one piece base.

"Ruby's Blade" from Supernatural, just need the handle painted. That's a weeks groceries for doing basically nothing.

Have you looked at the printer that uses a belt? Creality CR-30. Pretty neat. Was around 800, now it looks like its over 1,000... *sighs*

but look at the sword that came outta it:

Oh, I've looked at them, even looked at some home-built ones. Just cant justify the cost of them. It IS a side-line income and hobby. I'm pretty happy if it keeps me in filament, smokes, coffee and a case or 2 a month.

Been doing some research this aft on-and-off, and I think I just sheet the bed with an idea.

Linear rods/rails are pricey as hell that long.....BUT 17mm and 22mm epoxy-coated steel tube is about 2 bucks a pop. Also known as dollar-store broom handles. PLENTY stiff for this. NOT that hard to make a linear bearing using PTFE tubing instead of balls for the friction surface. Designing the adapter for a large-diameter linear rod aint that hard. Keep the speed reasonable and with the bit of flex in the PTFE, smoothness shouldn't be a problem

The 2020 isn't mechanically functional, it just holds the top up in the air. more cheap 22mm tube. . The head lift system is belt-driven and a roll of it is 16 bucks. I can get an MP10 with a fried board for free (well, trade) for hardware and spare steppers and fittings and stuff.

Think I'm gonna grab that $100 monoprice when I go to town on Wed. Gimme a month or 2 and I juuuussttttt might have a $200 large-format delta.

Dammit, these things are worse than Fiero's for modding !!

Here is what a CR30 goes for here, plus 13% tax https://3dprintingcanada.co...r-30-the-3dprintmill

Man, I miss the old days…

The whole point of this was cheap, scratch build, open source…

Forget if I poked your brain about it, but watch the Netflix documentary “print the legend”

It’s good stuff.

Ah, hell. After napping on it and waking up with an idea, I can do better than broom handles.

https://www.gianttiger.com/848437/p/848437

Perfectly strong and smooth and can do double duty as both rail and support. It's big enough only one is needed unlike 8 or 10mm rods. Those and the donor printer itself are the pricey parts, everything else is printed on the Anycubic or salvaged from the MP10 (which is going to cost me a couple spare hard drives I have kicking around)

THIS is the **** I love. Taking everyday stuff or "junk" and finding a way to build something great with it.

interesting ideas...

LOL, problem is my own projects take low priority so what should be done in a month ends up done in 6, if ever...
