Think of it this way . . .
The "cosmic tunnel" idea is dressed in a dark, pinstripe suit, with a solid white dress shirt, a conservatively styled necktie and carefully polished wingtips. It's dressed like a banker. It's not trying to raise any eyebrows, except (maybe) within the ranks of practicing astronomers who are focused on nothing more exotic or "mind blowing" than galactic-scale magnetic fields.
Compared to the "cosmic tunnel" idea, the "our universe was created by intelligent beings in some other universe" idea looks like this:
