Russell Brand, actor or news reporter? (Page 1/1)

I'm finding him to be a more 'impartial' news source than the so-called "news sources" lately...

Actor or news reporter?

Nope.

Celebrity commenter.

If it wasn't for being a celebrity Russell wouldn't have an audience.

No matter whether we agree or disagree with what a celeb has to say, they are still usually airheads that nobody would listen to if they didn't have public notoriety.

In Brand's case he is a life long drug abuser with a screwed up childhood who has a mediocre public high school education and was kicked out of his first year of formal acting school for illegal drug use.

The only thing that he is an accomplished expert at is being / playing the fool.

couldnt the same logic and reasoning be applied to the majority of the people whom post within the "Totally O/T" forum?

you are correct. that said, he has a proven record of him acknowledging whom he was. and the lives he has hurt along with his own.

and his primary goal is giving the guidance and aid to others that he himself says he wished he received. or would of help him shift from the path he was following.

now i say this from a position of not knowing if you knew this information or not. as i didn't want to assume. and i know you are one whom sets a precedence to be informed before speaking on a matter

Also think he wants folks to pay some $ for his paywalled podcasts...

READ his addiction book, awhile ago - it was pretty good.

Sure. IF the "majority of the people who post within the Totally O/T forum" were celebrities with YouTube channels where they express their personal views, make routine media major appearances, act in movies, have poor to marginal educations, have screwed up childhoods and are lifelong drug abusers.

You and others will have to speak for yourselves, but I know that I most certainly meet none of those "qualifications".

The other fundamental difference is that this is a small "off topic" section of an obscure car forum based in the Netherlands. It isn't "mainstream media" or YouTube.

SO the shorter answer is NO, I do not think the "same logic and reasoning" can be applied.

Making apologies and attempting to make amends for his past is fine but that doesn't consequently make him an expert on all the things he comments on.

Let's be perfectly clear on this; If you enjoy listening to him fine, enjoy it all you want but the fact remains that Brand simply isn't an "expert commentator" on much of anything except possibly the topic of being a celebrity comedian with a serious drug problem.

I'm personally a bit more circumspect about who I spend my time listening to or reading.

I will never understand the compulsion of some people to get their social and political "news" and opinions from comedians, especially the late night TV talk show clowns.

He seems like an odd guy. At least he shows some logic, and seems to be pro freedom.

I do enjoy listening to him.
that said, i don't make conscience efforts into maintaining being up-to-date on his catalog of podcasts. however when i come across something where he is a voice on the matter. be it opposed or for. i enjoy the way he gives almost a bibliography of his though. thus i enjoy him explaining the whys and not just the final verdicts.

Oh, he's definitely a strange one, but I DO appreciate "a different angle every now and then", know what I mean, *wink wink, nudge nudge*
