Three people were killed and eight others were injured in a shooting Tuesday at Oxford High School in suburban Detroit, authorities said.

The suspect, a 15-year-old sophomore, is in custody, Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe said at a news conference. A handgun was also located, he said.

The three people killed are all thought to be students, he said. Their identities have not been released.

The eight wounded, including a teacher, were taken to hospitals for various injuries, according to officials. Two were in surgery late Tuesday afternoon, and their conditions were unclear. Six others were stable, officials said.

Authorities received a 911 call about an active shooter at the school just before 1 p.m., McCabe said. More than a hundred 911 calls came in to dispatch, he told reporters. The suspect was taken into custody at the school within five minutes of the first call.

The suspect fired between 15 and 20 shots before he was taken into custody.

Edited to correct number injured.

Sad.....I do wonder if the school had an on duty police officer in the school or if this is an area that is 'woke' and dismissed them as not needed if they had them at all.

This is sad, I can't imagine how family and friends feel.

If I heard it correctly, a school resource officer was the first on the scene within a few minutes of the shots being fired. He disarmed the shooter. Unfortunately, he was about 20 rounds too late.

I have no idea WTF happened to this world.

late 70's/early80 we all had guns in our cars at school to go hunting when we cut class...er....um...uhhh..."had a spare" on the schedule. Nobody got shot except for a few rabbits....dirt hills, blades of grass....the odd moose up north but those are more fun to punch and run

Late 80's I had no problem driving through Oakland to visit friends...white guy in a black 67 Mustang coupe, 1911 in the glove box, but there was never a reason to need it.

Try that **** today, and things wont end well.

Yep. It is within each and all of us to take another's life, tho some claim they never could.

Get him his lawyer, let it go through the courts- and if he is found guilty, let him fry.

Make an example out of him.

He heard that the last school shooter was released on bail within a day or so. Maybe it was 48 hours but his family streamed his release and had a party.
