Finished a project that I thought would not work. (Page 1/1)

A few weeks ago I replaced the blades on my lawn mower with mulching blades, those work great. I've been looking for a mulching cover to replace the standard chute.

All the websites I searched had reviews saying the various covers would not work with my model. I drove to Ace, Central Tractor, Walmart, Home Depot none of them had one. Finally on a whim I stopped Lowes, they had a Husqvarna cover - it did not say it would fit a craftsman mower. I decided to try it, so I bought it.

When I got home, I discovered this was the product that most were saying would not work. I decided to try it, figured I could modify it, took the chute off, and I'm looking at the product and the mower opening. I remember saying, well, this is not going to work.

I put the cover on the deck, and low and behold it fit like a glove. I was completely shocked. It took about 5 minutes to attach it with small two rubber straps. The only modification I made was to block off a small hole on the cover with a small piece of metal tape.

I tested it out where we have a large oak tree that has shed most of it's leaves. It worked great, in the past I would have to drive in circles to mulch all the leaves. With the cover on, it mulched the leaves completely on each pass.

I've run the mulch blades and chute cover on both my mowers for the past 5 years plus. I have had to use self tapping screws to keep them in place as the strap arrangement will not hold up. Mulching is geat for the lawn and lessens the worry of launching a rock into a window or parked car. Two seasons ago I also purchased a tow behind lawn and leaf sweeper. easier then raking and I use the collected ground up grass and leaves for garden compost.

Get yourself an old MS 290 or newer MS 271.
The best mulchers on the market.
You will thank me later.

Just get a goat.

Trade the goat-milk for gasoline.

Turn the riding mower into a racing tractor.

Goats happy, cheese-makers are happy, you are happy.

See how easy that was ?
