Advice to sightseeing visitors (Page 1/1)

If you are not from the affected area or don't have a good reason to be there, stay the hell away.

Just got back from Mayfield, KY. My son and I were there to help clear debris with our two tractors with FELs. He's a fire fighter/Paramedic, me, I'm just a retired old fart. Our task was to clear assigned streets of debris as much as possible, to clear assigned utility right of ways to get power, and other above ground utility crews easier access to start putting up new poles and lines. We could have gotten a lot more done except we kept having to stop to let sightseeing vehicles through. How do I know they were there to just see the damage, the roads we were working were blocked off but, once one vehicle goes around, the rest follow. That and all the out of state tags. The Volunteer Center was full of folks just standing around, not doing anything other than eating the free food. Sorry about the rant, it just pissed me off. There was much to do but, no one wanted to get their hands dirty.

Three flat tires but, we got a lot done. Was time to leave and make room for the bigger equipment. It was a real mess.

BR- First, thank you for the help you provided to our countrymen.

Second, I absolutely hate "Rubberneckers".......When I have been stuck in backed up traffic due to an accident, I consider my one job is to >>SAFELY<< get past the accident. I have had numerous people slam on their brakes or almost cause (Another) accident while checking out an accident.

Had a small fender-bender with my Fiero(1990)- while the police were taking down info, etc, a lady was driving by and side-swiped three parked cars while looky-looing. The police told me it happens very often.
