the reason I asked about the tv thing , is we just got a new tv yesterday and set it up this morning and i noticed the connection thing on my laptop not long afterwards.

Unplug the TV and see if the network still exists.

Good idea.

Any clue as to why apps now ask if they can connect to other devices in my network? Would this cause MJ's issue also?

It is very likely the new TV.

As I had mentioned in a recent thread, I am a HA freak. Everything is tied together through WiFi. Some devices want to join your home network, and others create a new dedicated network just for that system. During setup, they will broadcast an SSID (often hidden) so that they can be discovered by the setup app.

There are free apps such as WiFi Analyzer that can give you a lot of info about all of the networks around you.
