January 6 'insurrection' ... two aspects of it that are underreported. Do you know? (Page 1/1)

I've done it again. Another "January 6" thread. Rag on me about it, if you must, but this focuses on two aspects of it that seem to have flown completely under the media's radar, in terms of what's been reported about January 6--and what hasn't been reported.

I'm here to fill that gap.

These two aspects of the January 6 "insurrection", "breaching of the Capitol Building", or "Stop The Steal Rally Inside the Capitol Building"--whatever you think it should be called--are sui generis to the extent that I do not think they belong in any of the other January 6 related threads that have been created. Notably, the one very long one (by now) that was started by "2.5" and the others that I started.

Are both of these connections with January 6 sui generis or is that an oxymoron? I would say both are sui generis when you consider them one at a time. Of course, if I keep saying sui generis I might as well shorten it to "sg", but I won't say it again. At least, not in this message.

So here's what I have that is likely something--two things--that you haven't thought about before:

The actual disturbance (to put it mildly) at the Capitol Building on January 6 is kind of like a footnote or a sideshow, in the eyes of the House Select Committee that's chaired by Bennie Thompson (D, Mississippi) with ranking Republican member Liz Cheney of Wyoming.

That's how I see it.

The committee wants to scrutinize the emails, texts and voice conversations of January 5 or "Insurrection Eve", and January 6, between the White House and the Willard Hotel, which was serving as a command center for Stop The Steal-related activities.

This is reporting that was published by the Washington Post:

quote
They called it the “command center,” a set of rooms and suites in the posh Willard hotel a block from the White House where some of President Donald Trump’s most loyal lieutenants were working day and night with one goal in mind: overturning the results of the 2020 election.

The Jan. 6 rally on the Ellipse and the ensuing attack on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob would draw the world’s attention to the quest to physically block Congress from affirming Joe Biden’s victory. But the activities at the Willard that week add to an emerging picture of a less visible effort, mapped out in memos by a conservative pro-Trump legal scholar and pursued by a team of presidential advisers and lawyers seeking to pull off what they claim was a legal strategy to reinstate Trump for a second term.

They were led by Trump’s personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani. Former chief White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon was an occasional presence as the effort’s senior political adviser. Former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik was there as an investigator. Also present was John Eastman, the scholar, who outlined scenarios for denying Biden the presidency in an Oval Office meeting on Jan. 4 with Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

They sought to make the case to Pence and ramp up pressure on him to take actions on Jan. 6 that Eastman suggested were within his powers, three people familiar with the operation said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations. Their activities included finding and publicizing alleged evidence of fraud, urging members of state legislatures to challenge Biden’s victory and calling on the Trump-supporting public to press Republican officials in key states.

The article continues from there.

"Ahead of Jan. 6, Willard hotel in downtown D.C. was a Trump team ‘command center’ for effort to deny Biden the presidency"

The Willard Intercontinental Hotel on D.C.'s Pennsylvania Avenue, not far from the White House.

One of the aspects of January 6 that has the committee's interest is why more than three hours elapsed after the first moment that Trump must have been aware of the violence at the Capitol Building, until Trump went public on media with his video message asking the rioters to stop their Stop The Steal activities inside the Capitol Building and take their leave of the Capitol Building.

Three hours--that was long enough (famously) for the very famous "Gilligan" and everyone else aboard the S.S. Minnow to lose all connectivity with the civilized world. A "Three Hour Tour" in case anyone has forgotten:

I also find it unsettling that the Stop The Steal "illuminati"--Rudy Giuliani, Steve Bannon, Bernard Kerik and John Eastman (among others) were using the Willard Hotel.

It takes Marlon Brando's character just beyond two minutes to get to it, in this video clip, but the question was "Did they say why, Willard--why they want to terminate my command?"

Just coincidence?

Since there's already a thread about this, I'm closing this one.
