Some 4 1/2 decades ago, an old USN Chief told me "You can go ahead and die once you've visited Tonga, because it and it's women doesn't get any better than that".
I visited Tonga a couple years later and I thought the place was beautiful and interesting but the women were a bit on the chunky side. (evidently, the Chief liked 'em big)
Probably didn't help that an LPD and another amphib were with us.

They had gone decades without loosing a single island and now in 2022, they are loosing an entire island every single month. You can't argue with the facts, man.

Of the 224 countries being tracked, they rank at the bottom (#224) in number of cases.
Over 69 percent of Tonga's eligible population have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to Tonga's news website Matangi Tonga Online on Thursday. Approx 92 percent of the population has had at least one shot.

The media report said the South Pacific island country has been working to administer COVID-19 vaccines to the eligible population aged 12 years and above. Tonga has a population of more than 100,000.

Tonga's Ministry of Health confirmed on Thursday that at least 96 percent of the eligible population have taken their first dose, and about 71 percent are fully vaccinated.


Tonga population is 105,494 with 70% of the population living on the main island.
They have had 1 case (Oct 2021) , 0 deaths and 100% recovery rate.
