BIG TECH Rants -- For Those Who Are Mad as Hell (and Not Going to Take It Anymore!) (Page 1/2)
Notorio FEB 04, 04:39 PM
I'm starting this thread with the Invitation to all of you to Post and Rant Away, but just at Big Tech, please.

Example: The self-righteous [expletive] at Google have finally worn me down and 'I'm not going to take it anymore.' A couple of weeks ago I was using Google Maps to finish a trip home when I noticed that what should have been a 20-minute ride was showing as 30 minutes. Traffic ahead? nope. That's when I noticed the little Leaf and the note that I was following the 'most fuel efficient route.' Was I given this choice? Nope, it just booted itself up that way. I pulled over and went to the trouble to find the buried 'option' to take the Shortest Route. Poof, right before my eyes the ETA decreased by 10 minutes. That's when I got mad as hell: what gave these technocrats 'the right' to waste 10 minutes of my life in order to save 5 cents worth of gasoline?? And without asking me??? Well I thought I had beat them having changed the Setting but you guessed it, when I clicked on a map for directions today it booted up with 'the most fuel efficient route.' That's it: I swear I will never use Google Maps again as long as I live. Next stop, to download Waze, and hope that it doesn't also have this lamentable feature!

Since we can add "social" to just about anything these days, I'd maybe call that social manipulation. Akin to social engineering? Maybe more properly call it societal manipulation / engineering.

Next steps might be rewarding the choices they want you to make. Demonizing the people who don't.

I anticipate that soon google will have two travel options. 1 for vaccinated and the other for the unvaccinated.

What gives them the right? They own the software.

Go buy some paper maps and plot your own route if you don't like what Google is doing with their own software. Prolly will take longer than 10 minutes though.

We dont care anymore !!

I've had this "fight" and hate-on for them for at least 10 years. ALL the game companies.

I paid my money and bought games on CD that I could play OFFLINE...OFF-FREKEN-LINE....when I travelled.

THEY go and sell the games to STEAM or some other mega-platform and those games I BOUGHT and PAID FOR can no longer be used without an internet connection.

They changed it into something I was DELIBERATLEY avoiding for a specific reason !!

I hope their mothers get genital warts. I hope their children disappoint them. and I wish every single one of the bastards explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting in a car with locked-shut windows when stuck in a 6-hour traffic jamb !!

Censorship of speech of any kind does not sit well with me, from Big Tech to Little Tech.

I use Waze. I'm pretty sure that it isn't "green", like that.
Hell... it even lets you tell fellow travelers where there is a stalled car or a "police presence".
Better than "smokey reports" on the CB, decades ago, because it can be updated in real time, and it "looks both ways".
The only down-side is that it uses a sh!t ton of data and battery capacity.

I'll spare everyone my rant about the telecom providers (AT&T, Verizon, Windstream, Century Link, etc.) for another post.
