Questions regarding "cracking" or "rooting" iPod Touch or Nano. External controls. (Page 1/1)

Okay. So here's the thing...
I effing despise iTunes. If I crack or root my iPod touch (which I'm not even sure is possible) and just load music tracks on it as if it were a thumb drive, would my vehicle iPod controls still work?
Would I also still be able to use my "lightning cable-to-RCA adapter cable" to play music through my home stereo? (The only controls involved are on the iPod itself. On the face of it, this would not seem to be too difficult.)

I don't even care if I lose Bluetooth and all the other stuff that the iPod will supposedly do. I just want a basic music player and for it to be free of the "Apple iGadget" Antichrist, and still work in my cars with iPod controls.

Edit - I realize that the term "jailbreak" is used most commonly with iProducts, but I don't care anything about extra apps or features. Just want a clean slate type of device.

Honestly, it's just better to get yourself a dedicated mp3 player. I use old Blackberries and sub 20 buck devices that look like a flash drive and take either 1 AA or AAA. They work with the OS and are hassle free. they either have their own memory and/or take micro SD.

I bought a few players off of eBay for like .98 cents awhile back and they felt cheap as heck but they WORKED.

(Just took a few weeks to arrive.)

I "jailbroke" an ipod mini and the battery was on its way out, so it just wasn't worth it.

I'm seeing a zillion players for under 20 bucks on Ebay.

I've seen those players. Lots of them. Never heard any information one way or the other. (Thanks for your comment.)
Do they still work with the "iPod" controls in most car radios?

I try to lean away from MP3, choosing CDA or WMA if possible. (CD quality is fine with me, in spite of what the "audiophiles" :rolleyes" have to say about it. I'm not a "critical" listener, most of the time.)

Hmmm. Probably won't work with the ipod controls. even a jailbroke ipod probably won't work with those controls, (do you have "carplay"?) but its worth a shot. I like FLAC and OGG, but a lot of what I have didn't start out that great quality, and the waveforms look the same to my tired ears. There HAVE been a few times when a lower quality file introduced audio artifacts not found in the original (sound like 70's sci fi music in the background) or just sounded "off" - "Sarah McLachlan - In the arms of an angel" sounds a lot better the higher the bitrate, but even the "best" file playing through the best speakers is not the same as hearing her sing it live. (even if THAT was amplified as well...)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SiylvmFI_8 when she hit this part (2:56-3:00) her voice almost made a buncha people pass out. like a buncha people did this weird wobble at the same time. I feel wired as hell (well, weirder than how I normally feel) heh. It almost sounds like the file was cut, like its a skip, its a werid thing.

That "skip" in her voice is a very common characteristic of her vocal styling. I can always pick out a song of hers, even if I've never heard it before, because of how she does that.

I'm sure even in this old trance classic of hers, you can hear her doing it. (First couple of times are at 2:24, 2:38...) Crank it up!

Many car systems that have USB will take any "thumb" drives and whatever format(s) of music files it supports.
Read the owner's manual for your car.

Note: Some "MP3" players still don't work w/ all Tag Formats and files won't play or Crash the devise. Tags are In the file w/ names, track #, album art, etc.
So then often need Mp3tag or other tag editors to fix "mp3" files including mp3 ogg etc extensions

iTunes sucks but many "3rd party" tools still needs it installed to write files to iCrap devices.
Even w/o that Many iCrap things need to "Recode" mp3 etc file to ICrap AAC format and re-coding program may barf on some tags like above.

I havnt followed the jailbreaking community since the iPhone 4S days, but I do seem to recall a tweak to enable copying/pasting files to the device as if it was a USB drive
