Pontiac Aztek (Page 1/3)

Never been for or against the car. I've heard the people who had/have love them. Apparently great storage and the like. I wouldn't have ever bought one especially given the Vibe and Matrix existed around the same time.

I saw this one though. Damned if I wasn't scrolling and thought it was a 4 door Fiero. Anyway else see it?

Being a die-hard lifelong Pontiac fan, I like it.

I like it well enough. Easily the best looking one I have seen, though I don't care for the gold or the Firebird logo. If Walter White was offering it to me though, I'd certainly buy it.

Still can't see buying it the Matrix and Vibe had better MPG., Toyota reliability. There was a 6 speed XRS and GT. An AWD model. I got 42mpg in my Prizm, so I would guess the Vibe and Matrix would get very similar. The 1.8VVTi had a cheap aftermarket turbo add-on. Unfortunately the 6 speed was not available with both engines. I know nothing of the 2.4 as I have never owned one, I may have driven one, but I cannot recall now.

It definitely looks better than a regular...aztek.

At the same time the aztek was making the rounds of the car shows, the Chevy Nomad was also showing...Always thought they should have made the Nomad and not the aztek.....At one point during production, they were offering a $9000 rebate on them...and also requiring GM employees to use them as work vehicles.

They actually are very innovative....But whoever styled it was definitely not.....talented......

That one doesn't look bad. Back in the day, there was one I used to see go thru town. School bus yellow. THAT was the ugliest car I had seen up to that point.

That one looks "ok"...

But the Aztek:

The front looks like it is two different vehicles stuck together, like it was involved in a transporter malfunction or something.

Two designers each made their versions for the nose, and then when they asked "well, which one will you use?" The reply was "...YES!"

The Aztek was too far ahead of its time.

You are at least the 2nd or 3rd person to say something to this effect. None of you have elaborated. It flopped and got discontinued and I easily suggested a better car that was in production at the same time with styling that almost all prefer and better performance. More readily available primary component parts. Toyota build quality is as I've always known vastly superior to GM. I drove a Tundra as a work truck (I chose it over the Cadillac SRX that we also had). It was dead solid. One of our guys liked it so much he went and bought one too. Having said that, the owner did buy his mommy a matching SRX.

What are these innovations, that clearly weren't futuristic enough to overcome the public opinion that it was hideous? I mean at least the Scion xA and xB were cheap and again Toyota quality.

Now that you mention it, yes. Yes I do. Good eye.

It will now haunt me forever.
