LOL... how did I survive on my own? (Page 1/1)

Wife is gone for the weekend with the daughter. I'm home by myself...

I haven't showered, and I managed to eat only the expired food that I found in the pantry. It was a box of Chocolate Squares (with Hazelnut filling). I realized after eating them that they didn't taste right... they were extremely sour, and quite nasty... but I kept eating them of course. I got like 3/4ths of the way through, and it was just too nasty. I looked at the box, and realized immediately it said H-E-B on them. Well, I live in Florida... so that right there tells me they're old. I looked at the date, and they expired in 2019. Not sure how they lasted that long in the pantry without getting thrown out. I woke up this morning itchy all over the place... hahah, apparently that's something that can happen when you eat expired food.

Hahah... I mean, I shower at night, so it's not like I was filthy when I woke up the next morning, but I was inside all Friday.

I took some antihistamine and feel a lot better. I am definitely going to have to check all the food and see what's expired and what isn't. Man that **** was nasty... and I had no idea that hazelnut paste or whatever that crap was inside those chocolate squares, could get so nasty...

I opened a pack of MREs last night that had a 2011 expiration date on them.
(I never realized those things had a pack of red hots in 'em. (They were labeled 'cinnamon imperials' tho. We didn't get candy in C-rations)

Would you guys occasionally get a chocolate bar? Or were those too prone to melting and turning?

The new DOD/MREs have a lot of fancy stuff in them. Instead of coffee, they actually have cappuccino and espressos as well. They'll have things like beef wellington (as a paste obviously) and some other stuff. They're really good, almost too fancy, but I suppose... why not?

I was watching a TV show, and this guy owns a cave on his property. The cave used to be used by the Civilian Defense force, and they left thousands of rations in there because the temperature and conditions were perfect for keeping everything from rotting / going bad.

The Civilian Defense rations were from... what... the 50s, 60s? And this guy opened a fresh can of them, and it was full of saltine crackers. The host took a bite of several of them and they were still perfect and really good... kind of funny. But I guess the right stuff will last. He said that if they took them above ground, the crackers would likely disintegrate within a day.

I thought M&Ms were surgically created for soldiers MRE?

Did the internet lie to me again?
