It's a good thing he had his helmet!
The guy stops and looks at the truck for a second, then takes off running! I can't stop laughing![This message has been edited by williegoat (edited 05-24-2022).]

Look closer. I was not joking about the helmet.
The helmet is between the fender and the gate. The gate deflects under the force of the impact. Once the fender is past the helmet, the truck moves toward the gate.

Not that facing the traffic would've necessarily been of benefit here... but who the hell stands just a few feet away with their back to moving traffic, and no barrier (not even a curb) offering any form of protection? It reminds me of people waiting to cross a street at a busy intersection, who stand right on the curb facing traffic, with cars and trucks and buses in the curb lane whizzing by only a few inches away. Damn, it's like playing Russian Roulette.

Patrick, I'll agree with you on folks standing on the curb as being "risky" but, not facing the traffic? Which direction should he be facing on a two way street? Do we know which direction he was headed on that sidewalk? I mean really?

Well, first of all Ron, there's not really a sidewalk in that video. No curb, no sidewalk. A google search quickly answers your question.
Which Side of the Road Should You Walk on for Safety?
quote | From the National Center for Safe Routes to School, "If no sidewalks exist on the road, it is recommended to walk facing oncoming traffic on the same side of the road as the oncoming traffic.
If traffic approaches you from behind while you are walking, you have only your ears to rely on to know it is coming. If it is coming from in front of you, you have both your eyes and your ears to help you know to move off to the side (or even jump into the ditch).
If you are walking in the early morning or late afternoon, it is even more concerning, because drivers have the low-lying sun in their eyes as they approach you. You need to be vigilant.

Whether that guy was standing still or walking, he should've been paying attention, considering his proximity to the traffic with no barrier of any sort. I think we can all agree that he was extremely fortunate not to have been killed in that video!
