Look around the middle of this here picture thing. Does the "Dark Area" seem to be increasing a little?

if you look in the center for 5- 10 seconds, it doesn't seem to get a little larger? Interesting. They say 10-15 percent of folks don't see that.

Yes, and every time I shift my gaze just a little bit (side to side or up and down), the effect occurs again. Interesting.

I've seen it before, there was an article that elaborated on it - basically,

Your brain anticipates that you are about to enter a cave.

Found another website discussing the illusion...

"compensation mechanisms "

and this one looks BRIGHTER in the middle... akkkk!

"Another image that demonstrates this phenomenon is Akiyoshi Kitaoka’s “Asahi” illusion of brightness. Our brains perceive the white at the middle of the illusion as being much brighter than the white surrounding it, when in reality they both have the exact same RGB values, and the brightness of the image is completely uniform. Researchers have also found that a subject’s pupils will contract when observing this illusion, even when the lighting in the environment they’re physically in doesn’t change."

ahhhhh!!!!!! It's like how I sometime start tearing up when I look at a pic of the sun on a monitor...

For years I would tear up when looking at a picture (or video) of a husky... but I suspect that's an entirely different phenomenon!

I couldn't have watched this years ago without becoming a basket-case. However, time heals all... and I can now smile and enjoy it.

Aw dammit, I'm wiping away tears again...
