Printer upgrades (Page 1/1)

Pimp my printer !!....actually, they are all functional. (I know, I know, It's bumble-bee)

Just put on those gantry brackets ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4313356 ) and what a difference !! They give a wheel-design the solid feel of linear rails or rods. Zero slop. Instead of the eccentric nuts, the inner wheels are mounted in an adjustable saddle, and tension is adjusted via an M4 screw pulling it in or out. Once set up, it has no choice but stay square and tight. I highly recommend the mod for the guys running extrusion machines with wheels.

I did a re-mix to add a bracket on the back so I can keep the bowden extruder. Next time I'll go a little higher, this only gives about 2mm bed clearance under a 42-40 stepper, so I had to go to low-profile bed clips (still cheaper than re-printing or getting a pancake). I've got a direct-drive kit kicking around somewhere and used them before, but I find a short bowden is easier for on-the-fly changes, and the way I have the extruder moved right the bowden is very short, only about 6-8 inches or so.
