I'm gonna need better brakes.. (Page 1/3)

Rode my bicycle for the first time in the new neighborhood. It's far more hilly here than back in E Texas.
View from front yard.

From the back, it gets much more inclined. I look down on the roofs of houses just 2 blocks over.
The rangeland in the distance, is Ft Hood.
(The distant sounds coming from there is topic for another time I think)

I can get up most of the hills (huffin and a'puffin) using a lower gear, but going back down some of them is an adventure. Good thing there is very little traffic here, as i screamed right thru 2 intersections with brakes fully applied. Gravity is a beech and it's everywhere.
(I did NOT however, pull a Joe Biden and fall, not even once)

Disk brakes on a bicycle make a hell of a difference, or you might just need better pads.

I can lock my bike wheels as easily as on a motorcycle.

At least you guys still can...I got on Kims at the beginning of summer just for the hell of it. Right knee went on strike, left filed a restraining order, and I spent a week on cane and crutches.

THAT wont be happening again anytime soon.

I assume your bike doesn't have coaster brakes.

How old are the rubber pads? They might be all dried out and hard as stone... and not gripping your rims very well.

...and you can't stop the bike? Something's screwy.

Weight, speed, inertia play into it. I'm not fat but also not a skinny guy by any means.

In The Pride and the Passion, Cary Grant (Capt Trumbell) does a fairly good job of explaining it to co-star Frank Sinatra (Miguel) regarding a very large cannon they were going to transport down a hill.

Cannon? What Cannon?

Rams

Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber, his upbringing, his environment, his culture, his mental state but … after a shooting, the problem is the gun.........

When I think of Sophia Loren, I always think of this picture with Jayne Mansfield.

You should be able to lock up the back wheel at least.
