Had a bad wreck, totaled my bike.

This is a photo of my 1968 Schwinn Orange Krate.

Some 20+ years ago, I bought a diecast of the bike from QVC. I proudly had it on display on my dresser ever since.

Well , about a week ago, the diecast decided to jump off to it's death. I was so sad.

I searched the internet for a replacement, didn't have much luck, until I happened to find Summit Racing has them on their web site.

Long story short, I have another one now !!

Man, I'm glad you're okay. That could've been much worse. Bike does look fixable, but for the amount of work, yeah, I guess it's better to total it.

I bet that left a mark, though.

That will buff right out...

That's an interesting bike model tho. I'm not sure 'they' would allow such a platform to be sold nowadays, with the shifter sticking up like that in the center of the frame.

That's the same model bike I learned to ride on back in the 90's, it wasn't orange, it was rusted to hell, dragged it out of my Grandparent's attic and cleaned it down with steel wool.

Schwinn was too pricey for mom, so I had the down-scale version about 1975 or so...

Actually, scale it up by about a third and it would make a pretty sweet electric conversion.

<edit>

Not sure about hitting 120 on that, but it sure would be fun to find out.....Hold mah beer and watch this !

Sting Rays, Orange Krates, Lemon Peelers etc were the bikes we lusted after when we were kids, although looking back now by the time I had learned to ride they had just about run their course. My parents used to tease us by bringing home the latest Schwinn catalog for us to drool over, any time they were in the store for tubes or tires or other parts for the various off-brand hand-me-downs we were riding at the time.
