Florida's new loud music law goes into effect in July
https://www.msn.com/en-us/n...4998938e7205d47a85f2
BARTOW, Fla. (WFLA) – Loud music could soon land Florida drivers with a ticket and a $114 fine as a new loud noise statute goes into effect in July.
Some drivers aren’t happy about it.
“I don’t like that. That’s not cool at all. It’s like, you could be driving around having fun, playing the music loud with the windows down and could be fined for that. That’s not cool," said Jayden Yawn of Lakeland.
“You’re gonna fine me for having fun?" asked Jaiden Pumarejo, of Lakeland.
“To me, it looks like a money grab," said Jerome Douglas.
Rick Dubose sees it differently, though. He believes the law is "perfect."
“It can also distract from emergency equipment going by. You can’t hear the sirens because you’re having to listen to the ‘thump, thump’ or the high bass and everything," he said.
The "loud music" law goes into effect July 1. It prohibits sound produced by a radio, tape player, or other mechanical sound-making devices or instruments from within the motor vehicle that is "plainly audible" from at least 25 feet away.
The Bartow Police Department posted about the new law on Facebook, saying: “Here is your warning!" The department vows to strictly enforce the law.
“We would rather not write the citation. However, we do have the ability to write a non-moving violation in the state of Florida which is [a] $114 citation," said Bartow Police Capt. William Stevens.
Capt. Stevens says the focus will be on educating the public once the law goes into effect. It will give officers another avenue to initiate a traffic stop, which could lead to further examination of the driver, passengers and vehicle.
“Just like any other Florida state statute, it just gives another opportunity for an officer to attempt to or see if they can identify any other identifiers that would allow them to continue on with any criminal investigation," said Capt. Stevens.
Hmm, I know that I get irritated when someone pulls up next to me and my vehicle windows start to vibrate due to another's "music" being so loud but I wonder what the decibel limit is, is it just in the LEO's opinion or can I make a citizen's arrest and what proof do I need to lock these offenders up. Wink
I have had motorcyclist do the same thing, this could get interesting. LOL
Further research shows that the sound barrier is 25 feet away from the offending vehicle.

Plainly audible to WHO ??
Somebody with perfect hearing AND one of the new high-tech hearing aids ?
Or us dumb-shits who have spent 40+ years self-inducing noise damage to our hearing ?

I like music- I play guitar and keyboards a bit (I could probably be sued for what I do to my guitar)...But I never wanted to be FORCED to listen to other peoples music....Seems kind of rude.
I was boat camping at Trinity lake one year, and a wake-boat kept circling near my site....big wake (Rude) and loud music- first off, I don't consider it a sport if you have music playing. But what was interesting to me was that at one point they played Jimi (One of my favs) but I still didn't like it...Just don't like nor am I impressed with loud music.
So....a guy driving with his windows down and loud music; "Dude- can I see your wrist? You must have the biggest wrist to be able to turn the volume up that high! I am so impressed..."
And of course, the "Root" of the loudness problem;
"The louder the boy, the smaller his....."toy"[This message has been edited by cvxjet (edited 06-27-2022).]

I am totally going to hijack this thread, apologies to no one!!!
I now live about ~45 minutes from Bartow since I moved to Tampa. The town, along with some other cities in Central Florida have a lot of "old wealth" neighborhoods. These are neighborhoods where back in the day, people had a lot of money and moved to Central Florida (about as far South as you dared go, without being directly in Key West, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or West Palm. There are tons and tons of old Craftsman-style homes around here... and it's pretty cool.
First house in Bartow is the Wonder House: This is a home that was built in the 1930s I believe... the guy was dying and dumped all his money into building this cool looking house. It's in a much larger neighborhood that was built in the 70s and 80s after the family sold off most of the land around it. The home was abandoned for many years, but it is currently being renovated, and it's now open for tours again.
Next is the Haunted Frank Lloyd Write Home (Actually made by Neil Schwizer) that's been abandoned for almost 20 years. It belonged to the parents of the NASCAR driver Ricky Wilson.
I'm not a fan of getting arrested, otherwise I'd be all over this house. Here's another video, newer... but the home is starting to show wear from all the years of neglect.
.
And since we're talking about Frank Lloyd Wright... the local Florida Southern College in Lakeland has the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Write buildings in any single place in the entire world. It makes up many of the buildings at Florida Southern College. Florida Southern College is older than these buildings. Originally founded in 1883, most of their original buildings are all still there too. The original dorm buildings are still being used, and all the doors even have transoms above them. The old architecture is pretty fascinating. The Frank Lloyd Wright buildings were later built in the 1940s and 1950s. There are then some newer buildings that were built in the 2000s that are ultra-modern with whimsical styles.
Being totally honest, I was just at the campus last weekend, and the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings are very run down. They need total restoration at this point. Their auditorium had water leaking from pretty much everywhere from the prior rain storm. The school has also added onto many of the buildings, and... while they tried to keep the original styling, they couldn't replicate the original jeweled stone blocks and the new add-ons just look out of place. If I had to rate it in terms of condition... most of the FLW buildings are about 70/100 in repair, with some of the buildings needing even more work than that (concrete breaking away).[This message has been edited by 82-T/A [At Work] (edited 06-27-2022).]

Well, based on the number of responses to this thread, my assumption is, you don't expect much from the hijack............

I think I am going to come down there with some Opera CD's (and noise cancelling headsets for me) and see just how big of a car audio setup I can find.
No bass there....

Hahah... no, definitely not. There aren't a lot of people who get that excited seeing old buildings. I grew up watching This Old House, so I blame that.
As for the law, I guess it's only in Bartow?
