          | I need to do a patent search for something i have seen before. From the late 1800's-1910's era.
It was a type of bike, but instead of pedaling in a circular motion, both legs moved up/down (or front/back, don't remember which) simultaneously.

Anybody know the proper name ?

          | Close enough, that works.
I am turning one crank arm 180 so both line up and the peddles turn into foot-rests without the knee offset. So long as I can give the setup a proper name in common use it stays legal, and saves me a bunch of complexity.
