(Chopper project is being set aside for a week or 2 since i can do this one pretty fast. No cutting or fitting or anything, paint and bolt-stuff-on. )

That looks like the same frame my favorite bicycle from my teenage years had. It was a Schwinn men's heavy duty.

I think it is. And that motor kit is 1500w on a 24" wheel

A little tweaking with the motor controller and I think the proper terminology is "go like snot" .

I can get SLA batteries for $150 so the only real challenge will be finding ammo boxes to fit 2 batteries each. Might end up having to make those.

$6 for 50 cal ammo boxes at HarborvFreight. They're plastic. In metal at most guns shows here. Prices vary.

Welcome to Canada, dude !!

I'm just not sure if the in-stock batteries will fit 2 in a can. Lithium no problem. Gel, I've never tried.

<edit>

Nope, looks like it'll be 4 boxes,

Might say screw it and wait on delivery for one of these. 29Ah will sell easy.

What really got me into these was trying one. Late summer of 2020 I was going to buy a regular motorcycle. Lots of decent ones around for under 3k. Then I tied a Tao (electric 300 Ninja). HOLEY CRAP this is fun, and no hassles, no licencing, no insurance ?

Now I have more gravitated towards real classic (think 1903 Harley, Board track racers, and WW1 dispatch) type stuff. The only hitch up here to stay "legal" is gas powered have a 49cc and 55kg limit, while electric is 500w on the road (unlimited off-road mode is OK) and a 120kg limit. LOTS more room to play.

Am I looking at the right thing? About $1300 on Amazon and you basically just swap out the pedal assembly and some sprockets? I am betting that is WAY more than Mike will spend and since I don't think we have the issues he cries about in my area I would just buy another scooter. My 250 Honda Reflex would do 80 GPS confirmed and I got close to 80MPG, not while doing 80...

Do you feel safe on a bicycle at 40MPH? I'd still have the issue of not being able to haul anything. My scooter held an entire turkey under the seat. It also held a 40 pack of water once. I could've added a trunk and carried both.

40MPH is fast. I just bought a Schwinn and haven't taken it out due to heat, but I know I am not good for peddling much more than about 25mph and that is pushing it in high gear. I really just want something that makes me not have to park my truck at work each day. My total commute is .4 miles. I park almost .10 miles from the door though. A bike or scooter gets me on top of the entrance. I don't care about walking that far to my vehicle, but it is silly when I live so close. I have to currently go home each day to take my dog to potty, so walking isn't in the cards due to time constraints. That and 0 sidewalks, plus the elements are erratic here, at best.

If you buy the parts new (Amazon) $1500-$2,000 is about right just for motor/battery. Bike is extra.

Add +/- 500 more if you want to upgrade cranks, forks, wheels/tires (I LIKE the new no-flat solid ones), seats, saddlebags ect.

This is the kit I am using on this one...and no, I aint paying anywhere near Amazon price for it. I just decide what I am looking for, set the parameters in FB marketplace alerts and let it notify me when somebody has a project or parts they need rid of cheap It takes patience, but sooner or later somebody is having a fire sale.

Here is the Kit going on the chopper when I get back to that. Paid full price for that one, but its cheap. It's also underpowered for anything besides slow cruising.

Speaking of cheap...my "work stand" for these things is a dry-cleaners clothing rack to hang them on I got for 4 bucks at auction. I've already decided I want a Mil-style trailer to go with this one and found a set of wheels for $25 and a steel baby crib frame for the bed of it for free. Lumber and stain might run 50 bucks or so.
