Nichelle Nichols (Page 1/1)

This wonderful lady has passed......Yes, I enjoyed Star Trek....But I am not a "Trekkie"....What really impressed me about Nichelle was the work she did for NASA, and the people she inspired.

She was actually frustrated with her small part on STTOS, even to handing in her resignation to Roddenberry, and then she bumped into MLK, who told her that she was an inspiration to millions. She then went back and asked Gene for her letter back- he had actually torn it up.

First Inter-racial kiss on TV, right?
It's sad to see a bunch of these folks pass recently.

Hope we can "grow up" as a species. seems like the best way to do it it to not "grow up", though, because most "adults" are pusswads, and most of the people in control are idiots.

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows...

Star Trek was certainly groundbreaking, far more than a sci-fi show.

Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest and most underappreciated poet/songwriters of all time.

Futuristic concepts in travel, futuristic concepts for human society, futuristic weapons.
Uhura's character introduced racial equality to mainstream tv, in the 60's, a contentious issue to this day, 60 years later.
She really is out there in the Galaxy, must be a thrilling experience, to go where no man has gone before, discovery.

May she rest in peace. Quite the inspiration for many.

Probably one of the most cynical songs I've ever heard. And one of my favorites.
Strangely enough, the first version I heard was Concrete Blonde's redux. ("The movie, Pump Up The Volume".)
