I upgraded my old laptop that I bought around 2006. It came with WinXP, a 40gig IDE drive and 512megs of ram. I found an adapter that takes an M.2 SATA drive and converts it to 44 pin 2¹/₂" IDE, installed a 128gig SSD and 2gigs of RAM.



I split the drive into three 40gig partitions and installed two different Linux distros. The third partition is for later experimentation.

Both are XFCE desktop and take around 30 seconds to boot. I am having intermittent problems with the Broadcom wireless adapter on the 5.10 kernel, but it works as expected on the 4.9.
