Speed too fast for conditions. He might have just killed some people.

Most of us here have the sense not to remain in a disabled vehicle, for exactly that reason.
Most, there is always the one who would rather be a warm target instead of a cold survivor.

Brake lights and backup lights were on. I know exactly what happens in a situation like that. I have read reams of accident reports and autopsies, and seen more videos and photos than I would wish on anyone.
Trust me, those are things you never forget.[This message has been edited by williegoat (edited 12-23-2022).]

There is a pass (Altamont Pass) to the Central Valley from where I used to live (Tri-Valley) Often, there is fog blanketing the pass, so of course, you should slow down. Also, of course, there are people who don't do this.
In 1977, they had a major pileup (7 Semis, 23 cars) in foggy conditions...After her car crashed, a woman could hear other cars, crashing, coming towards her- she jumped over the railing....and fell 200 feet to her death.
She thought she would be safe behind the rail, but did not know she was at the part of the highway with a long drop-off.
By the way, Altamont pass is very near the location of the infamous "Altamont free concert"...

"Sure, aim for the car."
I suspect that, by the time he saw what was ahead, no last-instant course correction would have made any difference. At that point, he was just along for the ride.
10-4 on the horseshoe. The article at the link said there was one serious injury. Still could have been a person in the car, but it could have been so much worse.[This message has been edited by Raydar (edited 12-25-2022).]

There is no room to slow down with people driving at speed. There are more morons than sensible drivers so expect to destroy your vehicle if attempt to travel as others will crash into you.

I like to watch Highway Thru Hell, which I believe is Canada's Hwy 401. It seems that Canada doesn't have or maybe doesn't enforce the 'move over, slow down' law that many US states have adopted, when approaching first responder's flashing lights. I see scenes of wreckers sitting in the roadway trying to pull any manner of mangled vehicle and cargo from the sides of the highway and these 18-wheelers are passing by at dry weather speeds.
They should have called Jamie Davis to clear MEM's mangled mass. He could have gotten it done before the last tractor plowed into the car.
