The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) has gone public in the last few days with the news that the construction timeline has been hit with serious setbacks that could involve not just weeks or months, but a year or more of delay.
One newly publicized problem is defective manufacturing, resulting in gaps of as large as half an inch, preventing the welding that's needed to build the donut-shaped chamber that will contain the superheated plasma in the reactor's core.
A second problem that's been revealed is corrosion. This is a setback for the construction of the thermal heat shield to protect cooling system components from the monstrously high temperatures of the plasma inside the donut-shaped reaction chamber.
"International fusion energy project faces delays, [ITER] chief says"
quote | SAINT-PAUL-LES-DURANCE, FRANCE – An international project in nuclear fusion may face “years” of delays, its boss has said, weeks after scientists in the United States announced a breakthrough in their own quest for the coveted goal.
The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project seeks to prove the feasibility of fusion as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy.
Installed at a site in southern France, the decades-old initiative has a long history of technical challenges and cost overruns. . . . |

In an "Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" moment, however, the ITER website just posted a K-pop performance that pays tribute to the ongoing efforts to advance the science and engineering of the magnetic confinement strategy in pursuit of a practical, fusion-powered electrical power plant. It's also been posted on YouTube.

Bollocks. They have the wrong workers. Can't today but just a few years ago I could still see to weld up anything but the crack of dawn.

ITER is another Green Scam. Some "people" knew the parts are made wrong at the factory and hind that. Then Stored the parts etc so water and worse could rot them and knew that too. Now ITER management has yet another easy excuse to delay the project for months to years while sucking down more Billions of €.
No one is going to have problems except maybe some scapegoats that gets fired while big companies and ITER board gets more money.
