New phone time. (Page 1/1)

I have been with Metro PCS for 20 years, started with a razor flip phone.
There have been some good times but mostly its been a pain.

Moving around the country has also added some grief.

So after several disastrous trips to the store for phone replacements I was not looking forward to this trip.
My LG stylus phone has been a good phone and has been through a lot and for the most part has not let me down. But now that LG has left the market I needed to find a new phone brand.

So in I went expecting the worse.

First impressions, they had the door locked and were at lunch. Not a good start.
But they did open as soon as they saw me.
Asked me for my password (They don't use them anymore) so after a couple of back and forth with her she had access to my account.
She showed me a Motorola (Moto G 5g) that was around the same size as my old phone.
Then she started looking at my account and said I was paying too much and she was going to fix it.

Oh no....
Ok so after going over everything she said she could save me $25 a month and I would not lose anything.
Then she tells me there is a promotion and they are giving away tablets with new phone purchases.
That added $15 a month for the tablet to have unlimited internet and I can cancel at anytime because they do not have contracts.

All and all I was very happy with the transaction and the person was very pleasant. Turned out she was a trainer. LOL so its her job to teach everyone customer service.
Could not have picked a better day.

New phone has been updated with my apps and its working great.
My girl friend is jealous

So if you are looking for new service I pay $115 for two phones and a tablet with unlimited data and 8 gig of tethering a month.
Free tablet, you only pay taxes and activation.
No contract.

Just thought I would share.

We have been with Chatr for about 3 years. Dont have tethering (dont need it) but we pay $50/mo for 2 smartphones with unlimited everything Canada-wide. Handy since Kim has family both up north and the east coast. Got her a new phone for xmas (Alcatel 1B is what she wanted, and it was $120). No contracts, and pay-as-you-go meaning we just buy a voucher to top up the phone each month. The only downside is if I get forgetful about the renewal date the phone goes dead until I get to the store (top-up cards are sold just about everywhere), and we have only had one service outage or dead spot since we got them, but then all of Canada was down too.

MUCH happier with this carrier than the last one. It was OK in the cities but useless in rural areas or on the lake or anything else outside urban.

Just tossing this in here, I switched to MINT about a year ago, 30 bucks a month, unlimited. And it comes with Ryan Reynolds. We had devices already.

Have some other family also on it, and have had a few folks also make the switch. All have been happy with their service, (YMMV!) and most were spending 65-80 a month. Nice thing is that when you get someone new to join (the cult), they give you something, like a few months free. Which is nice. You know what else is nice? YOU! (ok, I'm assuming that you are actually nice. Please don't prove me wrong)

I use T Mobile and have unlimited data and messages. The military rate cost is $25 per month for each line and includes all taxes and fees (most companies do not include this info in the rate quote and they can be significant).

I had to Google this. Still not even sure I know what I'd do with one.

Glad you felt like you got a good deal. I miss my Note 12.2 Pro, but doubt I ever go out of pocket for another. I have been for sure overpaying and it is 100% my fault. I need to tend to my mistake, I just can't bring myself to deal with the hassle.

As far as carrier choice. I prefer only gAyT&T and Verizon (or their respective MVNOs and wholly owned subsidiaries). I carried a free Metro or T-Mobile line for years and it was ALWAYS hot garbage, no matter what phone I used. I foolishly let that line go and I bought an S22 Ultra and I haven't been anymore happy. That was about this time last year. I don't think the phone is worth more than a few hundred dollars (junk) and my ride with Samsung (since the Note 2) I think has come to an end. My Watch4 Classic leaves much to be desired also.

All that aside. I have 2 T-Mobile 5G router/hotspots one at my city place and one I am keeping outside of town that has no other internet options. I am using at least 1TB a month between the 2 and out the door cost of $100 with equipment. It also includes Paramount+ which I would NEVER pay for. My ATT line has HBOMax, which I have been using free on a friends account for 3+ years so no added value there either. I am just over the extra expenses of it all and will be likely buying insane battery life next go around.

Rumor, my aunt has Mint and seems happy. She goes nowhere though and her significant other carries a Verizon line so cell service isn't an issue for them. I think when I drop my ATT line I will buy a year with Red Pocket. Probably get a Verizon SIM. Though Mint is something I am willing to try. Visible wasn't a fit for me. Google Fi is a joke. Shame about Sprint and their 2 decades of poor decisions. Anyone remember WiMax and Clear? NOPE!
