Pervasive technology (Page 1/1)

Anybody else getting sick-to-death of the level tech is being forced up our azzes ?

Got a letter in the mail from the government, some stuff to renew and deal with. I've always just gone into a office, slapped down some cash and a form and done. Simple and effective.

NOW, they want me to create some account, verify this and that bull-crap, use a single-use PIN they sent me then set a password that is damn near impossible to figure out and make work with all the conditions. If I need "help" or "accommodation" I can go to some other web-site equally frustrating to try and use.

Know something ? SCREW THEM !!

I am not jumping through their tech hoops. I am perfectly happy with a 2010 level of online tech in my life and more complicated than that, I cant be bothered. Dont know what a fax machine is ? Too fukin bad, I'm not going out to buy a new phone with a gazillion-mega-pixel document camera for YOUR requirement. Want me to have one, you buy it and send it and MIGHT, if I feel like it, take the time to try and figure it out. SCREW YOU.

Wanna take to to court or try and fine me, go right ahead azzwipes. Good luck with that.

All that stuff was fine when it was optional (and could be ignored), but it more and more seems to becoming mandatory to function. And if you dont feel like (or cant) use it then its a week-long battle to find a way around it.

Number 1) I agree with you about "Too much computer tech" (I can't count how many passwords I have)

Number 2) I really think the title of this thread should have been "Perverse technology"

My county has done away cash payments or otherwise pay in person for Sewers and some other things.

But you don't have more problems and no Fees to pay online.
Many paid @ the county office because Online charge a Fee + Bill amount And/Or beat the deadline often that day vs has snail mail problems now take several days more to get there if gets there a all then county tack on late fees or worse.

Note: Cap One and some others have Virtual CC/DC now. You don't need privacy.com and other 3rd parties for paying online.
Even if you use 3rd parties, can give them Cap One or other banks V-card not the real card #.
(Real Card Cost the Banks and you in the end every time the number is canceled for any reason.)

The revised Global Entry page is a special kind of hell. I had to renew it back in March of 2020, guess how that went shortly after? I just this past week got my new Global Entry card, and it isn't even good for another 5 years, it expires in 2026. In the process of signing up, they give you a series of their own passwords you have to write down or save somewhere to log in in the future.
