No it isn't a weight issue....The hooks are not barbed so the kids could get off/away. You may need to go to a fishing outfitter to find poper hooks which will keep the children on the line.

I'm thinking it's more a smoking and curing issue.
Children dont smoke well. Use the slow cooker, BBQ or broil instead.

I believe it's more a matter of age. "Screw-in" is clearly indicated on the package.
