My old staple gun was great. A Benchmark built sometime in the 70's it had enough power to fire a staple into just about any wood you wanted without after-hammering, and it had no safety feature. In a pinch it could be used to fire staples across the room at flies, stray dogs, irritating wives  , bad movies on the screen and whatever else needed shooting at the moment !! 
It died this morning, so I went and got another Benchmark.
Yeh.  Looks the same, but this wimpely little thing struggles with birch ply. And it has a safety. Wont fire unless the front is pressed against something (like the guy who put that there's forehead !). It's just not the same and not nearly the fun. 
R.I.P. Benchmark.

and now I gotta go thrift-shop hunting to find another old one.
