I don't know but I will say from a standpoint of being a teen in the 80's, something in society has to change to drag kids away from their damn cell phones and back to reality and spending time with their families. Going out, renting movies, buying their popcorn buckets etc meant you spent a good portion of your evening together. Vinyl records never went away and I have a feeling DVD/Bluray will make a comeback. I hope.

The 80s has become extremely popular among the kids today. I think you said you have kids, so you probably know they're all dressing like them. For the kids that don't wear pajamas and sweatpants (which apparently actually is a trend), the rest of the kids are all wearing 80s concert t-shirts. Like... Billy Idol, Metallica, The Cars, it's hilarious... they're all doing it. When I was picking up my daughter from school, one kid had a Metallica "Master of Puppets" t-shirt on, and she couldn't possibly know what that is. But TV-shows like "Stranger Things," which takes place in the 80s, has been making all of this stuff really, really popular. I didn't really watch the show, but apparently, there are several scenes with a Blockbuster in it.

So maybe they're looking to capitalize on that. I know one of Metallica's songs from the mid 80s was in the top-5 Billboard chart a year ago, literally... because it was on Stranger Things. These kids had never heard that song before, but they were all like... OMG, Master of Puppets is so awesome... hahah.

HUH !!!!!

DVD/Blue-Ray never left. Wife has 5 or 6 HUNDRED of them around here, and keeps buying more. People on FB marketplace sell them for 50 cents or a buck each (or 20 bucks a boxfull) and she is on that like a fat kid on candy.

I don't get it. I haven't owned one in years. Don't even have a player. Between You-Tube, Tubi, Prime Video and Roku I have all I could EVER want to watch, and dont take up entire closets storing it.

Dish Network bought Blockbuster in 2011 and is currently listed as the administrative contact for that domain.

Then there is this: https://twitter.com/blockbu.../1636021300966588417

What does this mean? Their parents are likely between my age and yours. The internet has probably everything Metallica has ever done. It isn't some underground hidden gem. This happens every generation Kids living their parents heyday. I didn't watch the show either. I might one day. 90s grunge has been very popular. Green Day era music too.

Night Todd!

Another thing about kids and the eighties. The Fiero is still admired by many.

The 80s has become popular, and the parents are likely buying these clothes because of it. But the majority of the kids have never listened to this music... they just don't. Most kids today listen to everything from Ed Sheeren (sp?) to slow rap, to hip hop, to stuff like Imagine Dragons. Sad but true...

I never liked Green Day though, ugh... couldn't stand those guys.

I graduated HS in 1996... so you know my era.
