Well then. (Page 1/2)

I aint THAT old and broken yet...

Had a lung-function test about a month ago. Seems I am sucking air just fine, but the 02 just isnt transferring to the blood.

Doc sent me for a CT scan of my chest. Wants to see me next week and wont tell me sheet over the phone. AND I got some folks showing up in 2 hours to fit me for a mobility scooter.

I been saying "no" to that BS scooter idea for 3 years.

Yeh, OK. My little push-myself power-walking routine over the past year made things worse. I make it about 2 blocks now before I am gasping. Yeh, I guess a 10km hike is out of question right now. Dunno, I was doing them last summer.

Dont give a damn what the docs and calendar and techs say....Damn scooter will stay parked in the corner and I am up for a weekend with Courtney and Melissa......

Uh....you guys go ahead. I'll catch up in a few days...I'll be busy.

(for those who dont get humor about the few days, yes I am joking. I've been with a lot wilder than those 2. One day should do it )

Well... whatever it is, I hope it's not serious, and goes away quickly.

There are other forms of personal transportation.

What ever it is I hope its nothing major and you are back to spreading joy in the hood.
Its tough getting old. Never know what is around the corner so taking it easy may not be the best path.
Perhaps sliding around the corner wide open throttle wont bring the best results at the end but its always a fun ride.

Any (good) news?

About 10-20 years ago, there was a bunch of companies went around to everyone over 65 (somehow got their addresses) and were hawking those mobility scooters "at no out of pocket cost!". Medicare was paying for it but finally, Medicare got wind of it and some of the compqnies had to pay back a potload of $$$.

They tried to 'sell' my father one but he wouldn't have it. He could still walk, tho slower than moses. He was in his 80s at the time.

I rode one of the motorized ones at Walmart a few weeks ago. Never again!, as long as I can still hobble along with a cane.

Hope you condition improves MeM.

Mine is spinal. Bone on bone L-5/S1, and that L-4 joint has slipped down on to L-5. L-3/L-4 has most of the material between the bone gone for awhile. Terrific pain in my right hip and leg, radiating down ito my thigh, knee and calf. Have had injections in both spine and hip and didn't help.
I can walk pretty good but cannot sit for more than a few minutes at a time, including in a vehicle. To get to my docs over in Temple (44 miles away) I have to make a couple of stops, get out and walk around awhile. 5 miles is about as far as I can make it without a lot of pain and cramping muscles.
Oddly enough, riding a bicycle doesn't bother me much, but the original name of this town was 5 Hills and not for nothing and there are a lot more than 5.

Waiting now on referral to a neurosurgeon but I suspect the bone doctors are going to try to cancel it. They don't like neurologists getting involved but I'm going to insist on it if I have to travel back to Texas Medical Center in Houston. I've had an ass full of Temple/Killeen medical care providers.

Good news is the physio guy was on my side so any scooter may take a looonnnggggg time getting here Apart from that I see the doc next Tuesday. Honestly, I already know at the minimum she is going to say COPD and put me on a puffer or 2, and make me give up my coffin nails and cigars. Thats just common sense thinking, I spent a lifetime of hobbies in dusty environments (body/bondo work, woodworking, painting ect) with not much more than a flimsy dust mask and most times not even that since it fogs up my glasses, plus been a smoker for over 40 years. In a lot of ways I never really left the 70s-80's when ashtrays were everywhere and PPE at home was a comedy sketch
