List of Queen songs that don't sound like Queen (Page 1/1)

I have been into Queen since 1976. Really enjoy all of the songs from their first six albums. I do know some people who don't appreciate the "Queen" sound- meaning Freddy's voice and Operatic sounds/voicing mixed into rock songs. So I came up with a list of Queen songs that do not sound like Queen. The Guitarist Brian May has a very normal rock voice and has written a number of (Basically) normal rock songs, while the drummer Roger Taylor was known to be a bit of a Punk rocker.

Added note; Not many know this but when you hear really high pitch wails or screams in a Queen song, it is the drummer- he could actually hit the high notes that Freddy could not.

Queen songs that don't sound like Queen

1) Great King Rat- Hard Rock (HR)

2) Modern times Rock & Roll - HR

3) Loser in the End - HR

4) Tenement Funster - Heavy Rock

5) Bring Back That Leroy Brown- Odd (1920s maybe)

6) I'm in Love With My Car - HR

7) "39" -- Folk/Skiffle

8) Good Company - Odd

9) White Man- HR (Great drumming)

10) Drowse - Heavy-Odd

11) Sheer Heart Attack - Heavy/speed/punk

12) Fight From the Inside - HR

13) Sleeping on the Sidewalk - Folk/Rock

14) All Dead, All Dead - Soft

(My favorite Queen songs; A) Millionaire Waltz (I don't like the Marlene Dietrich bit),
B) March of the Black Queen (BoRhap precursor) C) Nevermore (Stunningly beautiful)

A good list! Queen is a Top 10 favorite for me but even I had forgotten a few of those songs.

I don't remember who it was that was using "I'm In Love With My Car" in their commercials a few years ago, but I bet that's the most well-known of the non-Freddie songs, at least among non-fans.

Great King Rat, Millionaire Waltz, Liar, Seven Seas of Rhye, Now I'm Here, 39, etc are awesome! In fact, the kids at the local School of Rock are learning "Seven Seas of Rhye" so I might have to go see their show just for that song (my friend's kid plays drums there). I can play a pretty good "Love of My Life" on piano but obviously I can't sing it like Freddie.

Is that the slow part ("My fine friend, Take me with you and love me forever")?

Yes- It is supposed to sound like the famous singer/actress....That is the only part I don't like...Otherwise it is basically my favorite Queen song.

I have let a number of friends listen to one of the "not a Queen song" songs and when they ask, "Who was that?" And I give them the answer, they can't believe it.

I was lucky to have seen them twice- 1979 and 1981 while home from my Navy tour...Sadly, this was the end of their world-wide tour each time- Freddy's voice was (Basically) toast...Also, during these two tours, Brian May had stopped doing his Echo-box jam (From Brighton Rock (But also, he did it during the earlier song "Son & Daughter" played live)

I use an echo-box to do a 6 minute long piece of music (My neighbors may argue with calling it music)
