I thought this was done quite well. There's a mid-engine Ford... and even a Pontiac mentioned.

I would have sworn there was a concept car from the 60's called "Fiero".
I couldn't find it, but, there is always a but, I found this.

Cliff- I seem to reNember a Fiero concept from the seventies.....But my brain is not certified (Tho it may be "Certifiable"...)
That Mercury "El Gato" is really cool...Also, the AMC AMX III- my buddy was an AMC nut..Built a '71 Javelin using the book "The Unfair Advantage" but with a 500 HP, 7000 RPM 401....he raced a 911 turbo on the highway(Including transfer ramp turns) and also a Testarossa on a mountain road- and beat them both. He showed me that AMX-III back in the 80s.
I always liked the 1971 Roadrunner....

To be honest, I always like the AMC Javelin. I liked the AMC Gremlin. I love my AMC Jeep CJ7 Laredo. My family owned a late 60's Rambler station wagon. I snuck it out at night, or two, maybe three or more, .
An AMX, ... is not a Javelin. Eh, based on the original Javelin body style, but in a class of it's own.
I should have stopped. I was in a Fiero rally caravan cruise. I saw a Javelin. It looked good and like it could be had. I did not stop. Fieroism is an addiction.

American Motors Corporation (AMC; commonly referred to as American Motors) was an American automobile manufacturing company formed by the merger of Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and Hudson Motor Car Company on May 1, 1954. At the time, it was the largest corporate merger in U.S. history.
Dammit. There is an old Hudson P/U, '37 or so, which has been stored inside a shop at my residence since the '70's, which is not mine.
Hudson was a impressive auto company. Their stuff was in the top of the line, luxury wise.[This message has been edited by cliffw (edited 05-10-2023).]

If I recall correctly, the AMX was a two-seater, whereas the Javelin had a back seat of sorts (among other differences).
Yes, I agree with everyone else... the AMX 3 was absolutely stunning!

AMC was (Obviously) hungry- not one of the (fat) three....So, although their quality wasn't particularly good, their engineering at times was really good; When they re-did their V-8 They copied several other companies good ideas- The heads mimic SBC heads, while the distributor is mounted up front- but tilted so that at the bottom of the shaft, the oil pump is OUTSIDE the pan/block for easy access. I was really impressed with that engine.
He was changing the oil & filter one day- Just reached down along the side of the engine and removed the filter which was easily accessible- and because it was mounted horizontally, it didn't drip at all.
Here is Brian's 1971 Javelin...401 with 500 hp, Racecar-inspired suspension, 265/50-15 tires on 15 x 8 Western superlites- we drove up to Sears point for a Trans Am race back around 1990- they actually tried to wave him into the pits- thought it was a race car!
