SoCal is doomed! Doomed, I tell ya!
And just because I love this clip:
It's hard to believe that was 80 years ago, now.[This message has been edited by williegoat (edited 08-18-2023).]

"A first-ever tropical storm watch has been issued for California as concern grows that Hurricane Hilary will unleash a prolific amount of flooding and rainfall to parts of the state.
Hilary could dump more than a year's worth of rain in parts of California. Because of the threat, a rare high risk, Level 4 of 4, of excessive rainfall has been issued for parts of California. It's the first time a high risk has been issued for the area."
None of that sounds good. Think this is going to be a new yearly occurrence? A West coast Hurricane season?

There are few female names I hate more than "Hillary"....So I figure this storm knows that and is coming for me!
(Just noticed that the Hurry-cane's name is different...but it isn't different enough!)

I dont think we will have issues where we are. But the beach houses are going to have trouble, if the storm surge is too big they could see flooding. Rains in the mountains have to go somewhere and it all rolls down hill.
Worst part is they have not had to deal with this before and panic will likely set in for some places. I have been through 5 storms that were a lot worse than this one. If people keep their heads we should be ok

HUGO 1989 Landfall at Sullivan's Island, SC. Winds: 140 mph. Gusts: 160. Costliest storm in South Carolina's history. Over 6 billion dollars of damage. 35 storm-related fatalities. Storm surge: over 20 feet. Severe inland damage as winds gusted to 109 mph at Sumter, SC. I was station in Charleston at the time. The waterline in our shop was 16 feet above the floor. I have seen some **** .

If you laugh at them, they will get you back at the next earthquake.

In 1996 I went on a week long camping trip in The Canyonlands in Utah. It is basically a desert climate. We got dumped with rain from Pacific Hurricane Fausto and none of us had taken any real rain gear. The locals said "Yeah, this almost never happens".
Still ended up being one of the best trips of my life. The Canyonlands are incredible.
