Buying stuff on Black Friday or Cyber Monday (Page 1/1)

Years ago (2011) I found a metal model of the Stingray submarine from the British TV series for $75 and bought it on Sunday just before Cyber Monday.....On Monday I was showing a co-worker what I had bought and went to the Amazon site- He stated that I should have waited for Cyber Monday.....Looked at it on Amazon and the price was $105!

So the critical lesson from this is- Don't "Buy" the claim that the deals are on for Cyber-Monday...maybe some low prices but you may actually find HIGHER prices on some things!

(Why I bought the Stingray Sub model; I was crazy for Fireball XL5 and then Stingray TV shows.....My father somehow got a Friction model of the submarine...I got up at 5 am on Christmas morning and opened my presents (Yes- I was spoiled little idiot)....My father came in the living room at 7 and asked if I had got everything I wanted- "Yes- but not the Stingray" He said "Let's go wish mommy Merry Christmas" and hoisted me up on his shoulders- and there, hanging from the ceiling on an ornament my mom had made, was the submarine....My favorite gift ever until 2014 when my GF and her kids gave me a steering wheel cover with little buttons attached for the different foods I eat during driving trips (Jack link BJ, Cashews, M&Ms, PF Goldfish crackers)

That's a cool toy/model!

But yeah. They're skillful at separating people from their hard-earned.

I'll just drop this here.

Amacon Prime Days & related from competitors often have same scam.
Or somethings are just "Clearance" & "Outlet" items hopefully getting crap out of inventory eating $ sitting there but w/o Prime Day etc Hype they couldn't even give it away.

Christmas has become so commercialized that the meaning of the Holiday is lost on many people.

Gift giving has become "I want this" instead of " I would like to give someone I love something special".

Change the Holiday to one where gifts are not given, except for the gift of your time to you loved ones - a good meal, a family gathering, sharing stories from the past to the little ones.

Olejoedad- I could not agree more; I never look for gifts...I like spending time with family (Although all of my family is now gone/across country)

I remember being a spoiled little crapister when I was young- but slowly that changed- one important thing that helped change me was meeting my grandmother when I was 8 in '68. She was the best person in our family....amazing lady- she was best shot in family (Got an elk every year) and great fisher...woman; She was PADDLING to troll- getting 500 fish a year out of Lake Cushman.

That steering wheel cover that my GF and her kids made for me- It was the EFFORT that I really liked.

A Golden rule; Give your kid EVERYTHING!!! and he will never be happy with anything...Give him love and encouragement- and make him earn the few things he gets- and he will be happy just living.
