I so hate facebook/meta advertising... (Page 1/2)

Just a little rant...

So I promoted an event on facebook. It let's you choose a period, your budget and a target audience. Based on that, it estimates how many people you will reach. I ran the ad for 30 days and it estimated the ad would reach between 700 - 1,300 people per day. And with "reach" they mean how many different people get to see the ad. So I figured at worst, I would reach 21,000 people and at best 39,000.

My ad has just ended. Total people reached: 3,340. Number of people that clicked through to the event: 42.

I so hate facebook...

It's like Youtube has gotten to be recently. You have to watch an ad to see the video, so many if not most veiwers, just cut it off a few seconds into the ad and never watch the video but hey, the ad got it's bit in so why would youtube care?

Isn't there a rule somewhere about making multiple threads on the same subject? I jest...

I assume this is for your DJ alter ego life?

I don't know how it is in your country, but I've never been to even 1 event that I discovered on FB I always think I bet that'd be cool and I never see it again or I brush it aside. This may be anecdotal but people have to buy right then. There is a TV place that I've been watching their prices for close to a decade. I always suggest it to people, yet I've never bought a thing or set foot in their local stores. Great prices, but nah. I see concerts (comedy shows more specifically) know I'd enjoy. Nope never go to the FB ones.

I've actually stopped using FB on my phone at all, never on my work assets, and only weekly on my home computer. I think a lot of the younger generation doesn't use it at all. I think the people with REAL disposable income don't either. I'm at the tail end of Gen X, but no most millennial, and gen Z just don't have a use for FB.

The only thing I miss is marketplace and I stopped selling phones due to the rudeness and a few other issues. It wasn't worth my efforts. I think that's where all this gibberish was going. It isn't worth the time.

On the TV thing, though I don't think you're promoting a store. This place has physical locations only and I promised to take a friend there this week to buy a TV. I ended up buying one from Amazon instead. Free delivery and setup, but most importantly I don't have to go to the place. Not sure if that's your issue.

Sorry you feel ripped off. I would too based on the metrics and data you posted.

Yep ! Hate crapbook as well. When it started it was cool….then turned to crap….like MySpace. Gave up fb about 5 years ago.

Well, I actually don't hate facebook (it has its uses), but I hate Meta. I understand that you can't make an accurate prediction about an ad's "reach", but they should be able to give a somewhat realistic estimate. Not one that is so far off what it really is, that it becomes ridiculous. If the target audience has a size of 200,000 people, and Meta Advertising estimates they will be able to serve the ad to about 30,000 of them, but in the end only reach 3,000, then they are either lying/scamming you or doing something completely wrong.

Kind of off topic, but one day a while back an add popped up on my Facebook for a tool that helped people with just one arm play the guitar. I didn't think much about it (I have two arms), but the next day an add popped up for a tool to help people with just one arm cut vegetables.

Never did know why I got those.

Maybe Facebook can see into the future and thinks you're about to be involved in a terrible accident involving power tools?

Better be extra careful from now on!
