I’m a little worried about some struts I bought from Rockauto. I got a great deal on them. (wholesaler close out) Anyways, when they arrived I noticed the shaft on both struts are all the way retracted/down . I thought all gas/nitrogen struts came with fully extended shafts. (since they’re under pressure) As an fyi these are Monroe SenSatracs for a 90 Reatta. (front) No, I have not tried to manually extend them out nor have I contacted Rockauto yet. I wanted to ask those “in the know” first if these are ok or are they “blown”even though they are new in the boxes. (but maybe old stock)
Ok, here is a pic of one of them. By the way, these things are really beefy and well made. Thanks, Kit [This message has been edited by Kitskaboodle (edited 12-28-2023).]

Compress them slightly, then rotate the shaft counter-clockwise. They should slowly expand.

That's what I'm thinking. They may have an internal "screw" that is holding them closed.
And also they may expand very slowly, as in 2 minutes. Every manufacturer is different as are the internal valves.[This message has been edited by IMSA GT (edited 12-28-2023).]

Was there nothing holding them in the compressed position (as shown in this video)? That's what I've been familiar with.

Ok, thanks for the input. I will try that and report back on it here. 😊 Kit

All Gas units I've seen has something holding them compress to save space in storage etc. They use cheapest way to do that... Struts usually have steel clips "grabbing" the top of outer tube & rod where nut threads are. Shocks has banding, wire or clips depending how their made.
Gas Shocks & Struts never take more then a few sec's max to grow then the clip/band is off.
Look @ PN then go to Monroe site w/ that number.

I forgot to mention (when I created my thread) that there was no metal hook or strap of any kind holding down the shaft. They were in the box just as you see them in the pic. Yes, I’m quite familiar with different ways that they keep them compressed. Know you know why I am worried. 🙁 Kit
