What do you guys pay for insurance? (Page 1/4)

Just curious... I have two cars insured right now (not counting my Crown Victoria which is under collector insurance, that I won't mention here)...

Some data points:
- Two cars insured, I have a 2015 Ford Edge, and a 2009 Ford Explorer Sport. Both stock, neither one is modified.
- Neither my wife and I have ever been involved in an accident that was our fault.
- Neither of us have been in an accident in over a decade, and the accidents we did have, our cars were stopped, or even parked... and someone rear ended us.
- Neither of us have had a ticket in over 15 years.
- I work from home, my wife drives only a short distance.

For these two cars, I pay ~$2,500 every 6 months for insurance. Explain to me what I'm doing wrong? I've changed insurance several times, and it all seems to be at the same amount.

I own my 85 Fiero plus a Chevy Uplander van (No- I do not wear a Mumu!)...was $250 (fiero) and $450 (Van)....I also pay $250 for my jetboat...That is every six months...I have been with the same insurance (State Farm) since I started driving in 1977....Now that I am retarded- whoops! I meant "retired"- I don't do a lot of driving...

I did get a ticket back a year ago so the Fiero insurance went up to $380....in a year it will drop back down.

Car and homeowner's insurance have gone way up over the last few years. Big surprise, huh?

Can you get USAA?

I'm not sure... I have orders, and I did deploy, but it was as a civilian, so not sure if they consider it. But I've thought about asking them...

I have to maintain a certain level of coverage for my collector insurance, so I'm wondering if I'm "overdoing it" on the actual insurance. I'm waiting to hear back from Grundy to see what my absolute minimum requirements are. It's 100k across the board, but not sure to what extent that includes all the other things.

Holy **** ... I just lowered it to $879.00. I have no idea what Geico was doing... but this was also the same thing that Progressive was doing? I just switched BACK to Progressive... same limits and everything I had before, and now it's almost $1,700 cheaper?! I can't figure out how to be an adult... but whatever, I'm trying.

Holy crap, your insurance prices are insane! I pay $140 per year for my Fiero. That's liability and theft. It's not insured for damages to my own car caused by myself.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that we're a relatively litigious society. There's really no limit for tort lawsuits other than perhaps similar cases which result in a persuasive authority for a judge. I carry 100k/300k liability across the board. But the problem is that we have so many people who... I'll just say, are not authorized to be in America, and acquire a car and then start driving it. They cause a lot of accidents, due to having never gotten a driver's license (and not taken a test / learned how to drive properly), and causes insurance premiums to go up. In cities / states where we have a very unique and diverse population (meaning people from all over the world), you have a more "unique" driving style which leads to total chaos. Florida is one of these states, so the insurance rates are exceptionally high.

Cliff- maybe they WANT the Fiero destroyed......

As far as my insurance- back a few months ago I received the bill for my Fiero- it had gone up from $250 to $495...some mention of a company that provides data on cars and driving- Checked on that company and saw all kinds of BS- including that they make mistakes all the time. After getting ahold of my agent (By phone- not by the neck!) I found out that State Farm somehow had decided to put me down for 8200 miles a year- I had only driven 200 miles in the Fiero and approx' 2000 in the van- once my agent corrected the mileage the Fiero dropped down to $380 (Up from the previous $250 due to a ticket.)

What kind of coverage?
Have 2 vehicles here, full coverage and it costs me over $1150 every 6 mos, because my wife drives like Ken Miles but not nearly as good at it.
95 in a 55 and 4 AT FAULT accidents in 2 1/2 years will get ya some points..

If you are using an agent, you have to watch them. The agents get a piece of the pie and they can slowly, almost silently raise the premium over time and unless you move like I did and get a new agent, you may never know the old agent was hackin into you wallet.
(I too have Flo coverin my vehicles... )

USAA for homeowners was the highest quote of about 6 I got. My youngest spawn had the same results when he taxi'd on my military service and got a homeowner's quote for his home down in Tomball Tx.

I think only once I used an agent for car insurance... and I was quickly over it because the guy kept telling me I needed to come to his office for a visual inspection of the cars. I was like, this is ridiculous. So I cancelled. But I seem to change every 2 years. The only thing I can think of is possibly Geico was misrepresenting my miles, or not accounting for the fact that I work from home. The other thing is I changed my career... I'm listed as a research scientist now, where as I don't know what I had listed before.

But the coverages are the same... it's kind of annoying, but as they say, don't keep looking back... just move forward.

I really need to take this advice though for my home owners insurance. I have a "person" for my home owners insurance. It's a family friend (on my wife's side), and we have them for both homes, and I have a very sneaking suspicion that I could / should be getting a lower rate.
