Your #1 annoying feature of your car… (Page 1/3)
Kitskaboodle APR 30, 01:11 PM
When it comes to car features, there are many that are questionable. Some of them you can disable, some not. (at least not easily) This thread is for the built in features that are not easy to defeat. What is your number one car feature on your car that you find annoying? I’ll get this party started……
Funny thing is, my number 1 annoying car feature is not even on my car but rather our company Nissan NV 200 van. It has a nasty little habit of locking all the doors on you regardless of whether you purposely left it unlocked or not. I have since learned NOT to leave the key in it for any length of time, especially when I’m loading/unloading it, cleaning the interior, etc.

Your cars’ most annoying feature?

Hey, Kit...my Uplander van has a couple of stupid "features"

A) In the early (dark) morning, when you start it, the headlights come on...not so bad except my van is parked up against my WHITE! garage, so this blinds me and then I have to try to back out without any vision- luckily, I am retarded- whoops- I mean retired, so I don't do this very often anymore.

B) It locks the doors when you put it in drive- that is fine....But, when you put it in park it UN-locks ALL of the doors....Now this is fine if you live in a GATED community like the DESIGNERS do- but I live in a suburb and really don't look forward to carjackings and such.

What is really super-coolio, tho, is that the LX version allowed you to shut these things off, while my cheaper LS-version would not....The only difference in the computer is the VIN- otherwise they use exactly the same computer.

The blue dingy thingy, .

My Reatta also automatically locks the doors when you put it in Drive or Reverse.
The blue dingy thingy is annoying (I took mine out years ago and sold it on Evilbay) but at least it’s easy to defeat.

Yes, it's the automatic door locking feature of my Subie that I find really annoying. Every time I start the car, it locks all the doors, and then a few seconds later, it unlocks them all. Wait, that's not the most annoying feature.

The most annoying feature is that the alarm chirps every time the doors are all locked, and then chirps again a few seconds later when they are all unlocked. I wish I knew how to turn this nonsense off.

[EDIT 1] When I drove the Subie today... it didn't do the door locking/chirping alarm business. I don't know why not... but I just hope it stays that way.

[EDIT 2] And the next day I'm back to door locking/unlocking and alarm chirps again. The system is possessed.

I bought a Honda Fit to use as a winter beater, and it does that too. I unlock the doors (with the fob) when I walk out of the house, but they re-lock themselves before I make it out to the car. Or when I go to the grocery store, I leave the doors unlocked, but when I come out with a bunch of bags, I have to dig out the fob because it has locked all of them. Super annoying. Hopefully there is a setting I can change if I do a deep dive into the manual.

I also have a 2021 WRX and if I've disconnect the battery for any length of time, none of the windows will work except for the driver's window, until I do a complicated dance that involves turning the key on and off and trying to move the switch up and down several times. It's not in the manual and every time it happens I have to search on the Google how to do it.

Ok, while not here yet but coming to a dysfunctional driver near you in 2029!

AEB! or automatic emergency braking for people who shouldn't be behind the wheel.

Look, technology has its place but this is beyond common sense. 1st any of us with newer vehicles that have proximity sensors just love the effects of moisture in colder climates. 2nd, depending on which road you're traveling the terrain might be very steep. Stopping a several thousand pound car or a "light" truck with a loaded trailer on old farm roads? Who are they trying to save?

I understand cities have a lot more people crossing streets but according to the NHTSA this will save 360 lives and an estimated 24000 injuries. Ok so how much is this miracle pile of .... going to cost each US vehicle purchaser.

I don't normally post links, but if you w want to check it out here ya go.

Things I do like auto dimming rear, driver, and passenger side mirrors. You know what, it's not a US built vehicle and it didn't cost 6 figures!

The "someone is sitting in the seat without a seatbelt on" alarm in my Toyota. I can sit my hardhat on the passenger seat and it thinks someone is sitting there causing the beep to go off, but things (like the hardhat) seem to be right on the edge of being the weight of a person according to the car, and will wait until I'm going down the road in the middle of the night to beep and flash a red light on the dash. 🙄

The early 90's Geo Metro had automatic sea belts.

That was an idea that didn't last long. It was like a grade B horror movie. As soon as you shut the door, the car grabbed hold of you like a robot with evil intent.
