Ever been “punished” cause you’re old school? (Page 1/4)

And after I got off the phone I realized…….
they’re trying (in any way possible) to get me to stop paying by the old school method of CHECKS. (I refuse to change my ways)
What I’m talking about is Xfinity/ Comcast. I called them up today and asked them why they don’t provide a return envelope when they send me the monthly bill in the mail? They said it’s their policy. You have to provide your own envelope to mail it back. I have paying bills this way for 35+ years and I’ve never seen a company not provide a return envelope. In my opinion, this is not about them being cheap. It’s about being annoying to those who don’t conform to their “new” way of doing business.
Ever hear of such a thing? Kit

I'm just petty enough that something like that would make me continue paying by check forever.

I've occasionally been tempted to pay a bill by mailing a box of coins.

I am a confirmed, dyed in the wool grumpy old geezer. Got my "Get off my lawn" merit badge and everything.

When I go to Lowes, they have no cashiers, but they have three kids standing by the self checkout contraption kiosk talking about the new Taylor Swift record download. Now, half the things in the lumber department and the garden center do not have a UPC, but these kids act like I am taking them away from something important when I ask them for help.

I got tired of standing in line at Home Depot, waiting for my turn at the one "manned" register. Dropped a double armload of stuff on the floor, where I was standing, and walked out.

You should have come here to California. You can walk out with $950 worth of crap and security will watch you with no punishment.

But to answer the main question about old school:

I will not text you, I will call you and talk directly to you
If I DO have to message you, I will never use today's lazy dumbshit language of "R U OK?" You'll get a "Are you OK" from me
If you send me a message or email and it does contain the above dumbshit lazy shorthand, I'll delete it and tell you to email when you can spell full sentences.
I go to Starbucks and the college girl asks me why I don't just use a Starbucks card instead of cash all the time. I just looked her square in the eyes with no emotion and she got the hint.

Todays society has become lazy, uneducated fools due to cell phones and social media and to me, that's a huge downfall for the future. Instead of being useful electronic items, they are tools to dumb-down society and it's working.

As if my last post wasn't enough, this one deserves a separate post.

My biggest gripe which proves the entitlement and pure laziness of todays society.....the fact that fast food workers all make $20 an hour now here in Crapifornia, yet don't improve their customer service skills or time management skills to show gratitude and actually EARN that money. I STILL have to pull around front and wait 18 minutes at McDonalds in their "drive through parking space" for 1 sandwich because the kids can't estimate the lunch rush and prepare standard menu items ahead of the curve.

Carl Sagan had an interesting few lines about all this back in '95.

“Science is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children’s or grandchildren’s time—when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what’s true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness.”

Com-castaway? I have an >>>>AN-TENN-A<<<< I would never pay them for TV.....And my favorite but-ton in the whole world is the MUTE but-ton!

Xfinity.....Every commercial they have done makes me want to run screaming off a cliff.....I ALWAYS use the MUTE but-ton for their commercials.

I pay all of my bills with checks thru the mail...except Amazon....

I am "old school", but...

I really don't understand the appeal of using ancient technology... namely, writing cheques. (Yes, that's the proper spelling. ) Cheques date back to the first millennium. Seriously.

I've always disliked that archaic method of paying for something. Using bank cards and/or online payments (ie Interac e-Transfer) makes life so much easier. Why anyone would want to go through the hassle (and expense) of using an envelope and a stamp to snail-mail a payment is totally beyond me!

Sometimes it's best to just move on.

LOWES will send you a paper bill (don't know about envelope) but they charge for it!
