I got a package in the mail, with $142 worth of overdue shipping charges??? (Page 1/2)

So, totally wild... thought I'd share. I got a package from someone I don't know. I should say... there is a package at the post office that I need to pick up, which requires me to make a $142 dollar payment for shipping costs before they'll let me pick it up.

I have absolutely no idea who sent it, and I'm not "missing anything."

Since I have no idea what it is, nor do I know the person who shipped it. I'm not very driven, as they say, to pay $142 dollars. It's not a scam, because the mail lady dropped off a USPS slip with a valid tracking number, and an envelope that I'm supposed to put in the mail with a check (or bring in person to the post office where the package is being held). I looked up the tracking, and it says it's held at the post office.

There's no information about weight.

So, it begs the question, did someone send me bricks? Or did someone send me a rare V6/60 Supercharger with Fiero engraved on it (totally making this up).

I'd be really pissed if I paid $142 bucks for a box full of human remains or someone's excrement. I'm not aware of anyone that hates me... haha... but you never know.

What would you do?

With the tracking number it should be easy to find out who / where it shipped from.

... which is wild, because that was almost 2 months ago... so why is it just showing up now?

I wouldn't pay 142ยข for an unexpected package from an unknown sender.

By the way, "$142 dollars" is redundant.

Wikieup is not much more than a wide spot in the road, literally. As Minnie Pearl used to say, "Just this side of resume speed."
It is about half way between Phoenix and Vegas. According to Wikipedia, the population is 135.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how do you get a package delivered without paying postage?

If I drop something in a post office box with no postage will they deliver it and hope the recipient pays for it?

BTW no way in hell I would pay $142 for a mystery. It could be a set up. It could be full of illegal drugs. The feds are not going to believe that you would pay $142 if you did not know what it was.

A-number 1) Is there actually a package at the Post Office? (Or were you just sent a message stating "Pay up before you go pick up"...?)

B-number 2)I would ask the Post office personal about this package- Date, time shipped/arrived and also...Have you ever heard of someone demanding payment on a Postal Package....

C-Number 3) I would be extremely careful opening that package (If it exists)...Have you pissed off any ex-GFs lately?

The first thing that comes to my mind is one of your/our "friends" in the P&R section. But I'm not cynical.

I agree. Could be a false flag operation. But I'm not cynical either.

Well, the postage due is pretty high. Maybe between being sent from Arizona and arriving in Florida, it's circled the globe... more than once.
