My Social Security sign up experience - (A good one) (Page 1/1)
CoolBlue87GT JUL 04, 03:44 PM
Now, this thread is not intended to be about how horrible the SS program is or the political views that any one has. I understand all the noise out there.

It's simply about my experience about signing up for Social Security, I reached my full retirement age of 66 & 6 months.

Signed up on June 27th, using the SS website, the claim was processed on June 30. I actually got my 1st check deposited on July 2nd.

I can't believe how fast and easy the process was ! It took 5 days to process, two of those days were over a weekend. So I could really say it took 3 business days !

I'm not expecting to stop working for a few years and I do have other investments and savings and money markets that I can depend on and have zero debts.

Did you adjust for 'taxes' to be taken out of your 'check'?

Signing up "at age" isn't the big problem that many see.

Is SSI for Disable etc that is A Huge Pain often needing Lawyers & more to get in. Often This is Denied for Hundreds of "reasons." Even get in, many "reason" why can be "canceled" @ any time after with little or no warning.

Some large to big businesses have Lawyers specifically to handle this problem when employees are disable from work or non-work reasons.
Other have to pay lawyers & sadly why many TV Ads are Lawyers claim to be "experts" dealing w/ SSI taking money getting no results or worse.

If you think that's difficult, try getting VA disability because of military service reasons... It can take years or even decades. But, once approved, it's retractive back to date of discovery of the malady, (not date of claim) meaning the 1st check can be quite large.

Not yet, have been looking at the information about it. I'll still be paying SS taxes on my normal paycheck. I usually get 1500 - 2000 return, which should take care of it. I know the state of Florida does not tax payroll or SS earnings.

From various SS sources, as far as earning, it says in the year you reach FRA (Full Retirement Age) you can earn $59,520 before any benefits are reduced. Only earnings up to the month you reach FRA are counted. It goes on to say, once you reach FRA, you can earn any amount and your benefits will not be reduced. Since my FRA month was June, I should be in good shape. I will receive 7 SS checks for this year.

Oh, I'm aware of that... I have family & others working for VA or go to VA Hospitals "for care." VA goal is let them die as many as possible & never pay like Agent Orange, Gulf War, etc. Many to Most Hate dealing w/ VA Hospitals too for many reasons but have little or no choice.

Hmm, . It does not say (by your claim) that your SS benefits will not be taxed.
