Really. It is theft that could get you jail time. I don't look down on someone getting a abandoned item. It's a hard call to make. There is a yard I deal with and have bought a few things from when money permits. The guy that owns it would probably give me a few light bulbs or other consumable "little bitty" items. There is a line that can be crossed that can cause a person to have a CRIMINAL record. Be carefull.

If you ask or if it's offered, that's cool, if neither of those occur, it's theft.
I think I'll go down to Smitty's and pick up that part he's holding for me and while I'm there, see what else he doesn't need while he's not paying attention.
I am not trying to play holier than thou, in my youth, I'm sure I borrowed (stole and/or consumed) a few candy bars from the local Five and Dime. They had lots of them, surely they wouldn't begrudge me just one or two. Get caught at Wal-Mart liberating a few items and see how that works out.

That means that I can steal a pack of gum from a large department store if I like, since they are making a lot of money on other things. Like I said, justify it any way you want, but it is stealing.

Simple as that!
With anyone who thinks it is OK, in any way, shape, or form, it is no wonder the morals of this country are going to Hell!!

I do it everytime I go to the yard, Heck I fill my tool box up so much, that I have to get a wheel barrow to carry it out. I walk right out the door looking them right in the eye knowing the box is chuck full of stuff. And I don't even think twice....... -Jason }Of course being friends with the owner and working for him on the side, helps too..
You should see some of the stuff I've "stole"

I went to a Upullem here in Little Rock last wed. Got a complete decklid latch-with working solenoid, driver's side Indy floormat (so-so condition), a 8/10 Indy nose badge, both engine 84 side covers, assorted small items all for $14.50. As far as I am concerned, I "stole" it all--legally.

This thread is purely out of bounds. Yes, I am the one this thread is posted about, I will admit it. But there is no reason JimmyS, and you had no right, to go and make a thread about something that DOES NOT CONCERN YOU! Oh, and also the crapping of my build thread with this information...Quite childish if you ask me. That said, get a life and mind your own god damned business. And drop this subject.

Actually, this thread has merit. It has morals value. I have also liberated some parts from a salvage yard. I guess guilt got me. I still take what I want but ask if there would be a charge for them. They usually say no. Not only that, when I ask for a price on an item, I usually get a steal of a deal.

Yes, it is wrong. Have I done it. When I was younger, yes. Do I do it now, no.
Is this thread wrong? VERY MUCH SO. You are embarassing and humiliating someone on this forum. Just as wrong as misjudgment in this case. At the very most a P.M. was all that was needed.
Vinny
P.S. It would probably be good if this thread was locked and discarded IMHO[This message has been edited by vinny (edited 09-19-2008).]

Yep. If you really wanted to know how everyone felt about pocketing lightbulbs and screws from a junkyard, you should have asked it hypothetically, not by quoting a post from a specific member. You would have gotten the same responses and the same overall information, but it would not have been directed at anyone inparticular.

MrFiero, Vinny, thank you for agreeing with me that this thread is strictly uncalled for.
Now, since JimmyS can ask questions and change the focus of a thread (see HERE and HERE ), let me ask everyone this: How many of you can honestly say that you haven't gone to a scrap yard and grabbed small odds and ends, only to walk away without paying for them?
And also, in my defense, its not like I do this on every single trip to the scrap yard. And its not like I am trying to walk away with something valuable, like an entire block, or a head, or something along those lines. And I am also a regular at these places, so they do get my cash a lot.
