The builder put this wheel in it as he was building Pontiacs Race cars and heavily involved with the Pontiac Racing. He drove this one around and acquired it for this car thru GM so I wanted it to stay the same. Not sure if the wheel was put in as soon as the had them made at the factory and can ask him next time I talked to him. Rick

I'm failing to see why SuperchargedV6 is so butthurt over the wheel in the first place. Upset about the black stitching? Cripes that is a small thing to be upset about. Why not go get the original wheel recovered if detail is that important?

If I can find somene to do it correctly I will do that. Everything I have read was not pleasant so far on recovers. The black stiching is out of place and honestly looks like frankenstein. Rick

I personally would take that as a threat of a lawyer. IMO

I would take that as a threat as well at the most, intimidating at the least...
I guess the most obvious issue that I can see here is that you're looking for something that is original, but if I understand correctly what was available originally for an '84, the eBay style doesn't match that year, as it wasn't available until later? So, you were looking for an original steering wheel, but not something that was available or original for that year? I guess I'm getting lost on the whole concept of "original." If the goal is to make the car as original to the actual production for that year, then that particular steering wheel from eBay is wrong to begin with, right?
I'm only asking because I'm not sure what the starting point is for original, and how broad the definition or acceptable latitude of original is.
edit to add interior of an '84...

Gotcha! I'm getting it now. It's not so much that you were looking to keep it '84 original as much as original to what the builder/previous owner had installed. About the eBay wheel, from what I've read and seen so far, personally, I'd like it to be a little smaller in diameter and thicker- being a bigger guy. Looking at the outside of the car, I think that the black and tan complement the body/trim combination. With that said, I can understand how frustrating it can be to want something a certain way, even if it's a detail that some might not consider very important. There are TON's of things on my Fiero that bothered me when I bought it that never crossed the mind of the seller to mention. If the stitching of my steering wheel was the only issue, I'd be doing back flips! On the other hand, if my car looked as nice as yours, I could see how that one little thing would stick in my craw- if that was a concern of mine.
No matter what, there's always going to be something that's gonna get to you- whether it's a small chip, oxidation some place, a bug that didn't know how to fly left instead of straight... [This message has been edited by F-I-E-R-O (edited 07-20-2007).]

My tendancy is to agree with SC-V6....
I have had 2 items that I had to dispute (and I am not hard to please!), for my Formula, and it was for the same reason he listed. "Item Misrepresented"
The first was for a Fiero spoiler... I got it... and it was an 80's era Firebird spoiler... Sure it would fit a Fiero, but it was not a FIERO spoiler. I was very ticked that it was not what was represented in the auction. Result of that fiasco was that UPS had cracked the corner during shipping, they refunded the money to the shipper, who in turn took their very sweet time in refunding money to me. I kept the spoiler (offered to have them pay to ship it back.)
The second was from Kent Hill, you may remember him as PontiacSound. Ugh. He had an auction for a '87GT center console. Had a digital picture in the auction. Now we all know that every PC monitor is going to have som variance in shade/contrast... and in the auction, it looked like a 86-88 console. I got the item (took over 30 days... ugh)... and it was for an 84/85 Fiero. I immediately disputed the item (bcz time was so short), as it was misrepresented. The big deal here was the color was wrong. Sure it would fit any Fiero... but it was not the correct Charcoal Grey that I needed. It was the lighter Slate Grey. Kent told me he did not misrepresent, bcz he had pulled it from a junkyard 87GT. Maybe he did... and therefore did not mis-state his auction. Point is... the interior color code for the year he stated in his auction, and the color code for the part I rcvd did not match. I had to take the console to an interior shop, and they wrote a little affidavit thing that I had to send to Ebay, and prove my case... but they DID side with me. Forced Kent to repay me the auction (like $34) and I got my refund, less shipping charges. Kent wanted his chumpy wrong console back, I told him I'd be happy to oblige him, but he had to pay the shipping on it (not cheap for a big & light box... like $14)... he got really mad at that. End of story... I still have a chumpy wrong colored console. Paul Vargyas (NIFE) sent me an excellent one... so I got my interior done eventually.
Sorry, got carried away there... Anyway, IMO, it doesn't matter whether or not it will fit a Fiero, it matters if it is correct for a Fiero. The ad said it was listed for a Fiero, and that is not a Fiero wheel. It seems like you both could come to some understanding, and maybe just be out the shipping or something... but it sounds like it's already way past that. Anyway, I too would be wanting a refund if I got a pkg and it wasn't a Fiero steering wheel. At my job they are always quoting something about following the spirit of the law, not just the letter. I think the spirit of this auction implied something that wound up not being the case.

I see that you got a nice steering wheel, that IMO is even nicer than a NOS fiero wheel, and you couldnt even tell any differences in appearance from the stock wheel anyway.

I see lots of things on ebay listed for a Fiero that are not originally intended for Fiero. If I am suspect to an item I ususally ask questions especially before I click the buy it now option.

Thanks all for reading over this. I like to see both sides of the story. When I listed the wheel I did not remember it was a reproduction only a new wheel I never really thought about it I think it looks great. It shows online as a GM Restoration part in the pic but after reading the online store add it states it clearly, I think I ordered this over the phone but it doesn't really matter. I was waiting to see what the forum came up with to finish up the deal but I was planning to offer him to sell it for a fair price and split the loss as a good will deal as I feel I didn't list it incorrectly but it would have been nice to state it was a repro. Anyway its with paypal now and It going to be all or nothing it looks like. You know if you would have stated it was a repro right up front I would have been understanding. But you talked about so many things and degraded me like I was trying to rip you off. Any way thank you all and see ya sometime, Rick if your going to Fieros at the Hall bring the wheel with you and maybe we can work it out. Thanks Vince
