Fly the US Flag on Sept. 11 (Page 1/13)

I know I don't have to remind anyone of this but I'm doing it anyway.

Fly the Flag, Support our Troops!

Please join us in this FLY THE FLAG campaign.
We have less than 24 hours and counting to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America.

THE PROGRAM IS THIS:
On Monday, September 11th, 2006, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States.
Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this fifth anniversary of our country's worst tragedy. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

Thank you.

I don't have an American flag. And if I did I'd fly it every day.

shouldn't this be titled Patriot Day?

thanks for the reminder, i will fly the stars and stripes tomr.

on a side note, do grade schools still raise the flag every morning?

i remember everyday in school that someone would get to go raise the flag with the head custodian, mr. schneider i think, (he was tall, lanky, wore one of those tan jump suits everyday, smelled like smoke and mumbled at lot). it was a real honor to do that.

The rules for flying the national standard changed a few years back, I don't have the exact date. It used to be that the flag could not be flown after sunset. Now I believe it can be flown after dak if it is lighted. Many have choosen to fly the flag without the lighting. I could be wrong on this, I'll have to do some research. Raising the flag every morning changed when the rules changed.

Flag Etiquette

United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1 — The Flag
§6. Time and occasions for display

1. It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

"By statute, the President is requested to issue each year a proclamation requiring government buildings to half-staff the flag and inviting all the people of the US to do so as well, on the following days:

* May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day
* Sept. 11, Patriot Day
* Dec. 7, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day "

i think its wrong to hang our flag in the dark without lighting. i had a guy a block down that left his flag out after july 4th for several weeks.

i don't know what the rules are. just what i've been taught.
