Serious question regarding the Self Parking Lexus (Page 1/14)
FieroRumor DEC 01, 03:27 PM
Say you pull over to park, and then ya push the button, and it ends up hitting one of the two cars you are parking in between...

I suppose you are responsible, but technically, you weren't "driving"...?

Just wonderin'...

edit: I also wonder if it can park on both sides of the street...? (like on one-way streets)
edit, sorry, I forgot, the Subject line HATES ""...

I assume your talking about the New Lexus that self parallel parks??

I would assume your still liable, but I would most definitely look to Lexus for some reimbursment if it hit a car while using the electronic parking device.

I've been wondering how that would work my self, but if you read the disclaimer when they advertise it, it states "driver is responsible for braking". So I guess you would still have to hit the brake when you are close enough.

The driver would be liable unless there was a demonstrable fault in the Lexus that was beyond the driver's control.
It's an automated system, but the driver controls it's usage.
However, there have been cases, such as the sudden acceleration problem with Audis years ago where there was a verifiable defect in the car that contributed to the wreck. In that case, you're not liable, the manufacturer is.

In the commerical you can see a video screen and there is a computer modulation that circles the objects.

Not only does the Lexus parallel parks itself, it can park itself in any normal parking space.

I did a quick search and found this.

I'm waiting for this "feature" to hit NHTSA and the courts. This is a giant recall and class action screaming to happen.

On paper and in adverts it sounds really good. I'm sure they spent a huge amount on testing etc. They will be spending allot more the first time this thing screws up and causes any sort of problems in the real world.

ABS has always looked great on all sorts of things. 20 odd years later and ABS still has rampant problems. Now it's part of "stabilty" and traction control systems, which just compounds the original problems and adds complexity that creates more problems.

It's a potential example of my sig.

Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

are you kidding me. my 2003 bmw 530i m sport has acs and traction and all that **** . i can go around a corner made **** fast like a bat out of hell and yank the wheel left then right and the **** will not slide out. will not lock up the brakes. will do nothing but go where i point it. even full throttle in step tronic shift mode it lets of the gas if u dont and applys brakes to the right wheels at the right time. I have tried to make it spin out. burn out. or do somthing wrong. u can't Fing beat it. it will not let you. and in any accident i will never have to pull the manours i tried pulling back and forth over and over left and right and stomp gas and let off and brake hard and ect. ect.
I think if everyone had what my bmw has. there would be ALOT less accidents.
hell the new bmw's that are coming out. if you let your foot off the gas in a fast motion. it automaticly moves the brake pads closer to the rotor so when u step on the brake there is less brake travel. also if the pads get wet it has a sensor and will automaticly make the brake pads rub slightly on the rotor to use the heat and friction to dry them. so u won't have wet brakes.

BMW FTW!!

And the second any of that **** goes wrong you're going to get raped without lube by BMW to get it fixed. Sorry, I'll take driving with skill anyday over some stupid **** that takes the controls out of my hands and just adds more complicated **** that can break.

Self-parking now, next thing you know cars will drive themselves. I'm guessing most of you enjoy driving? I boycott any of that crap that does the work of driving for me. BMW and Lexus can DIAF.
