Hey Guys,
I'm heading out to Harry's U-Pull-It lot in Hazleton, Pa next week.

I have an 85 GT w/ 4 speed. I'm looking to pick up a 5-speed tranny, and possibly an engine. Also looking to pick up a fastback clip, wheels, and sailpanel speaker enclosures. (Maybe even some miata leather seats!)

My questions are:
Tranny: what is the easiest way to get one out? I'm assuming the best bet is one out of a v-6 fiero also, where I can drop the whole cradle. If such a fiero doesn't exist, what other GM or other car that I can get the 5 speed transaxle out of? Also what is the value of my current tranny? Its the 4 speed that hits 3500 rpms at 65 mph (i'm not sure of the final drive ratio).

Engine: I'm looking to upgrade my engine. I want more performance, but not to the V-8 or 3800 SC level. I'm thinking about rebuilding a 2.8 to a 3.1 (possible the 2.8 off the same cradle as the 5-speed), with a possible turbo later on, or a 3.4.
Besides the engine themselves, what are the costs associated with each upgrade? will a 3.1 pre-turbo give a noticeable power upgrade?

Also - has anyone here been to Harry's in hazleton? I've heard good things about it, but I wanted to know if anyone else had been there. Whats the chances of picking up a fastback clip there?

I live near there, and was up there about 2 weeks ago. I've never seen a fastback up there. They had a half dozen Fiero's and all but one was pretty striped. The only one that was almost whole was a blue 84 auto. You never know what they have though, as they always add cars. The only bad thing is they just changed the layout and lumped all the GM's together instead of sorted by make. Also moved SUV's and rice to the front and moved the GM further out. Prices are great, but cheaper on weekdays, backed and a bit highed on weekends. Sometimes have $50.00 motor and tranny days.

If you're just looking for Fiero parts, it's not worth the drive from State College. There are too many Fiero people in this area that hit that yard on a regular basis. I go to Harry's pretty regularly, all the Fieros are stripped within a few weeks of arrival. Be sure to wear you hiking shoes, like johnt671 said they moved GM cars to the back. You may be able to find an Isuzu five, but the only Getrag you'll find will be in a Beretta or Cavalier. Fastback clip....forget it. 2.8s and 3.1s are all over the place. There were two 3100SFIs there a month or two ago. If you find a Miata, the seats will either be gone or trashed.

They don't let you take jacks or power tools into the yard. All the cars are up on stands. They have gantry cranes that you can borrow and wheel right over the car. You can unbolt the cradle and let it down (or just let it fall), then use the crane to lift the car and slide the engine/trans out from under.

Try E-Z Pull in New Ringgold, PA

I've been there lots of times and they have at least 1 6 that I know of that still has the trans under it and I believe it was a 5 spd...

Cost: $1 to get in and I don't remember how much a tranny costs off the top of my head, but everything there is CHEAP!!

PM or email me if you need directions...its not hard to find...

EZ-Pull gets hit pretty hard too, but I've gotten a lot of good stuff there. I usually hit Harry's and EZ-Pull the same day. The two V6s were both four speeds. The fastback clip was trashed and almost unrecognizable. They have Fieros there that look like they've been there for ten years. Ever see the pink one down in the bottom corner with all the old cars? It's got trees growing up through the front and thick moss on the dash.

Snafus, have you ever been to the yard in Lehighton on 248?

The yard on 248 is not a u-pull it yard. I stoped there and asked if I could see what they had in Fiero's and they said no. I told them I would post the parts on our forum and they would get a lot of calls for parts but they still said no. I have seen the the pink car in the old section. I was there last week and there are a couple of new Fiero's there. I stop there almost every week as there are a couple of cars in the engine section I want parts from and I can't get them till the engine is sold. Anyone want a good running 87 Duke for a $150.00 pulled. You can even here it run. I will gladly help so I can get the parts off the car that I want. They also have several 2.8 and 3.1 that you can here run but sorry no more 3.4 I helped pull the last one there a couple of months ago.

OK,

I think I have decided on a 3.4 w/ a 5 speed getrag.

The 3.4 is in the 92-95 camaro/firebird, right?

does anyone know how much u-pull charges for engines?

and what other car I can get a getrag out of?
and what year range it has to be?

As I said before all engines are 150.00 pulled from a running car but they didn't have any 3.4. If they did I would allready have it. If there open I'm going to make a quik stop there on Monday and I'll take a look for you or you can meet me there and I'll show you around. I'll leave anouther post tonight and let you know their hours on Monday.

I'm a frequent visitor to Harrys U-Pull it also. only ever seen a v6 in there once, gold. 2 years ago, i'm still pissed at myself for not taking the 120mph speedo.
-No fastbacks

last time I was up there though, there were a ton of mid 80's 2.8 and 3.1 v6 Grand am's that look like there are similar parts to the Fiero. Talked to the Owner, and he said he has a hard time Getting Fieros, and v6's are non existant.

they had a website, WEGOTUSED.COM , but it isn't working right now.

if anybody trys SHORTYS U-PULL IT in norristown, lemme know how they made out. also... 84Bill frequents some Philly Junk yards, but they are usually open during the week and are very picky about price.
